what size is the HOB filter, could it be used on freshwater 75g?
-
what kind of equipment are you running? I have always wanted to do a fresh water planted tank but have not wanted to drop the $ on a CO2 system.
I run an Aqueon hob and a light. A cf bulb from Home Depot ($5 kind)works great for plants. And no co2. The tank was $10 at petco and I had a coupon to petco for 50% off any purchase so the filter was $11 I think.
So light with fixture $10
Hob $11
Tank$10
Sand $6 quickrete sand from Home Depot.
Then the live stock. So $37 plus live stock. Not bad.
I do like 90% water changes only because I'm way over stocked and have two kids that feed the tank every time they walk by.
My plants are java ferns and jungle Val.
So I checked HD site for sand and they have a few options: play sand, all purpose, and sand/topping mix... what size tank are you running? Im looking at doing a 75g and keeping discus'

just for ones knowledge, when should you replace the filters on a ro/di unit? I think I have been using the same ones for about a year now.
and I typically do a weekly water change of 15g + 5g ato/week + 5g personal drinking water, so an estimated 25g made a week

is this fresh water? looks like algae to me, maybe your tank is just cycling. I would do a 10% water change daily if not a full 20% of total system volume. good luck

There is a product called plastidip that sprays on and is a kind of rubbery surface when it drys. It can be peeled off if desired and over spray is an easy cleanup, just let it dry and peel it off. It is sold at home depot and Lowe's. I have only used it on my vehicle but I'm sure it would work great on the glass. YouTube it for some cool uses. And I always use spray paint/plastidip out doors...fumes.
