  1. Don't give up on it Clint, it still may turn out to be something special. If it looked good in the past, it may look good again in the future. It's not like you need the real estate in your tank just yet.
  2. SOLD! Please let me know how it works out for your brother-in-law Gabriel, I'm sure he'll be very happy!
  3. I like your logic Clint, you're a smart man!
  4. Wow, I can't believe this skimmer hasn't sold yet. I just did a search on RC and this skimmer is selling for $200 there. I prefer to sell it locally and not ship it, but if someone doesn't jump on it soon I'm going to put it up on RC as well.
  5. Thanks for commenting Gabriel, I thought it was a pretty good deal myself. And if anyone wants to see this thing in action, go to Kingfish Aquariums. John uses this skimmer on his tank at the shop and it pulls out mucho gunk!
  6. $140 (goes for $271 + shipping on MarineDepot). Suitable for aquariums up to 75 gallons (although personally I wouldn't use it on anything larger than 40 or 50g, depending on how heavily it's stocked). I won't be needing mine any more, as I'm moving into a 450g tank and this would be woefully undersized!! The skimmer is in perfect condition, used only for 6 months. It has been cleaned with muriatic acid and is ready to use. Please send me a pm if interested. Mike
  7. I agree ... you should upgrade to a Hammerhead. That Barracuda's clearly not going to cut it.
  8. That sounds like a great plan, Clint! Hey, I've got an idea - why don't you ship that stupid skimmer back from where it came, and pick yourself up a nice Red Sea Prism skimmer. The 'shrooms will love it!
  9. Geez, I didn't realize ARC was so uptight. And to think I almost posted that same photo of me but from the back side
  10. Yep, great meeting all around. Too bad I was distracted by my daughter (the little blonde one), I had to bring her along to give mom a break. As a result I only heard bits and pieces of the talk and I regret not hearing the rest. Brian and Christina - Great to see the tank again, I love what you've done with the lighting and I'll need to come back again with the PAR meter to get some new readings. Thanks again for being wonderful hosts to the club, and for letting Sidney play with your pets. chrismunn - Nice to meet you too, bro. Thank your wife and daughter for playing with Sidney, she had a blast. Marc - Thanks for providing us with such a thorough discussion on sumps. You do so much for the hobby, and we are fortunate to have again been taught by you. James - You da man! - Mike
  11. I am almost positive I'll make it. Mike
  12. OMG, these pictures are just incredible. Thank you all so much for sharing them with us! Stephen, it's a rhomboid wrasse .
  13. Great photos Gabriel, I can't wait to see everyone elses as there were photographers in force at the meeting. It was a great time, and I think I had a chance to talk with everyone there individually. We've got some cool people in our club! It was an honor to co-host this meeting with the Kingfish guys, and I look forward to seeing everyone again at future meetings. We'll have to do it again at the office in a year like you said, James. I'll see what I can do to make the parking more convenient next time - sorry about that! Mike
  14. Andrew, I got the reminder email, so I guess it's working. Looks like it will be a small crowd at the meeting though . princer7 - Glad the operation went well, let me know about it when we meet on Saturday. Mike
  15. Here's a slight correction, but important. The tank is NOT in the Dell Children's Medical Center. It's in the medical office building adjacent to the hospital, called Strictly Pediatrics. The address is 1301 Barbara Jordan Blvd., and my office is Suite 400. The hospital doors never lock but the office building is secured over the weekend, which is why it won't be possible to keep the doors open. There is a covered parking garage sandwiched in between the hospital and the office building, and it's free on the weekend, so park in there. Nobody else will be around, so it will be easy for us to all find each other at the parking garage between the times James announced. Sorry for the somewhat rigid start time and lack of flexibility, but there's really no way to work around that. I'm looking forward to seeing everybody there! Mike
  16. More specifically, the fans need to be blowing directly onto the T5 lamps. It does very little to blow air between the lamps and the water, which is what people traditionally do to dissipate heat from MH bulbs. Another PAR monster is the ATI Aquasun, although I'm not very partial to its color.
  17. One cheesecake for me, please . I'll almost certainly be there!
  18. The rock is now sold as well, everything is gone. Thanks and hope you feel like you got some good deals! Mike
  19. Everything is sold except for the rock. This was done on a 1st come, 1st served basis. Thanks for everyone's interest. Mike
  20. So sorry I never saw your post, I didn't receive any email notifications. I'll send you a pm with my cell number and we can talk.
  21. This stuff is just occupying space in my garage and it might make a nice holiday gift for someone, so here goes. Everything is in excellent condition unless noted otherwise. Oceanic 30 gallon cube tank - $40 custom birch stand and light rack - $75 Current USA Lunar Light: Nocturnal Blue, Captive Sun 4" fan (mounted in light rack) - $10 modified AquaC Remora Protein Skimmer with surface prefilter box - $60 Tunze Calcium Dispenser - $15 CPR CS-90 overflow box with Aqua Lifter vacuum pump and prefilters - $45 (small amount of super glue is stuck to acrylic, perfect for attaching star polyps) custom Trigger Systems acrylic sump/refugium - $75 40 pounds Tonga rock, sitting outside for nearly 6 months (devoid of all life) - $25 There's more equipment here as well but I can't think of it now and I'll just add it down the line if/when I think of it.
  22. No problemo, Lee, and sorry if I came off a little harsh. I guess I get a little flamed when I feel my character has been threatened. Please do continue to contribute on the boards, as you obviously have a lot of excellent knowledge to share. Mike
  23. Glad you like the clam! Please keep me informed of how it's doing. Mike
  24. Lee, thanks for your comments and for emphasizing the troubles that accompany bryopsis. I do not, however, appreciate you insinuating that I'm doing something unethical by giving these things to other people. For everyone who has expressed interest, I have spoken at length with them to ensure that they fully understand both what bryopsis is, and the challenges associated with eradicating it. Many treatments have worked for tons of reefers out there, including lettuce nudibranchs, hyper-magnesium, and System ReefResh. I do not suggest that those strategies will work for everyone, only that options are available. I have provided full disclosure to everyone interested in taking these specimens, and they have expressed their full understanding of what they're getting themselves into. For them, the labor involved in removing the bryopsis, such as scraping the clam shells free of algae then prolonged close and careful observation, is worth it to them. Having said all of that, I feel that giving these specimens to others who are willing to fight it out is more ethical than smashing them with a sledgehammer or throwing them into the trash. Lee, I'm sorry for your struggles with bryopsis (I battled it for 2 years before giving up) but I'm glad you ultimately won the fight. Mike p.s. All items have been claimed, thanks to everyone for your interest.
