  1. I agree ... you should upgrade to a Hammerhead. That Barracuda's clearly not going to cut it.
  2. That sounds like a great plan, Clint! Hey, I've got an idea - why don't you ship that stupid skimmer back from where it came, and pick yourself up a nice Red Sea Prism skimmer. The 'shrooms will love it!
  3. Geez, I didn't realize ARC was so uptight. And to think I almost posted that same photo of me but from the back side
  4. Yep, great meeting all around. Too bad I was distracted by my daughter (the little blonde one), I had to bring her along to give mom a break. As a result I only heard bits and pieces of the talk and I regret not hearing the rest. Brian and Christina - Great to see the tank again, I love what you've done with the lighting and I'll need to come back again with the PAR meter to get some new readings. Thanks again for being wonderful hosts to the club, and for letting Sidney play with your pets. chrismunn - Nice to meet you too, bro. Thank your wife and daughter for playing with Sidney, she had a blast. Marc - Thanks for providing us with such a thorough discussion on sumps. You do so much for the hobby, and we are fortunate to have again been taught by you. James - You da man! - Mike
  5. I am almost positive I'll make it. Mike
  6. OMG, these pictures are just incredible. Thank you all so much for sharing them with us! Stephen, it's a rhomboid wrasse .
  7. Great photos Gabriel, I can't wait to see everyone elses as there were photographers in force at the meeting. It was a great time, and I think I had a chance to talk with everyone there individually. We've got some cool people in our club! It was an honor to co-host this meeting with the Kingfish guys, and I look forward to seeing everyone again at future meetings. We'll have to do it again at the office in a year like you said, James. I'll see what I can do to make the parking more convenient next time - sorry about that! Mike
  8. Andrew, I got the reminder email, so I guess it's working. Looks like it will be a small crowd at the meeting though . princer7 - Glad the operation went well, let me know about it when we meet on Saturday. Mike
  9. Here's a slight correction, but important. The tank is NOT in the Dell Children's Medical Center. It's in the medical office building adjacent to the hospital, called Strictly Pediatrics. The address is 1301 Barbara Jordan Blvd., and my office is Suite 400. The hospital doors never lock but the office building is secured over the weekend, which is why it won't be possible to keep the doors open. There is a covered parking garage sandwiched in between the hospital and the office building, and it's free on the weekend, so park in there. Nobody else will be around, so it will be easy for us to all find each other at the parking garage between the times James announced. Sorry for the somewhat rigid start time and lack of flexibility, but there's really no way to work around that. I'm looking forward to seeing everybody there! Mike
  10. More specifically, the fans need to be blowing directly onto the T5 lamps. It does very little to blow air between the lamps and the water, which is what people traditionally do to dissipate heat from MH bulbs. Another PAR monster is the ATI Aquasun, although I'm not very partial to its color.
  11. One cheesecake for me, please . I'll almost certainly be there!
  12. The rock is now sold as well, everything is gone. Thanks and hope you feel like you got some good deals! Mike
  13. Everything is sold except for the rock. This was done on a 1st come, 1st served basis. Thanks for everyone's interest. Mike
  14. So sorry I never saw your post, I didn't receive any email notifications. I'll send you a pm with my cell number and we can talk.
  15. This stuff is just occupying space in my garage and it might make a nice holiday gift for someone, so here goes. Everything is in excellent condition unless noted otherwise. Oceanic 30 gallon cube tank - $40 custom birch stand and light rack - $75 Current USA Lunar Light: Nocturnal Blue, Captive Sun 4" fan (mounted in light rack) - $10 modified AquaC Remora Protein Skimmer with surface prefilter box - $60 Tunze Calcium Dispenser - $15 CPR CS-90 overflow box with Aqua Lifter vacuum pump and prefilters - $45 (small amount of super glue is stuck to acrylic, perfect for attaching star polyps) custom Trigger Systems acrylic sump/refugium - $75 40 pounds Tonga rock, sitting outside for nearly 6 months (devoid of all life) - $25 There's more equipment here as well but I can't think of it now and I'll just add it down the line if/when I think of it.
  16. Definitely a great day. I regret not being able to see all of the tanks, but the discussion around the tanks I was able to visit was very valuable. We (ARC) should do this more often, as it gives the tank owner and the visitors a tremendous opportunity to hear opinions that may have an impact on potential improvements. Threads are great, but there's no substitute for an on-site evaluation. Marc, great to finally meet you in person. You'll have to come around again in a year and check out my home tank. I hope your visit was worthwhile. Mike
  17. I'll be a little late too, probably around noon. Hopefully I'll be able to catch up with you for lunch before the afternoon tour. Mike
  18. If Brian (makoJ or greenmako) is available then his tank will be a must see. I like the suggestion to position it between Gabriel's tank and my office tank. Hopefully John will be able to make contact with him. Mike
  19. Unfortunately I already have plans for that day and won't be able to attend. I was really looking forward to hearing the talks, meeting the 1st-timers and seeing your tank. I'll definitely check out the video. This will be the 1st ARC meeting I will have missed.
  20. There's an active thread on RC that discusses different controllers. The discussion centers around this excel comparison chart. Hope this helps. Mike
  21. Wow, now that's service! Thanks John.
  22. Monday night I went to see the Toadies. Great concert! But when I returned home at whatever hour that was, the tank was dead silent. We had a severe storm Sunday night, but nothing else in the house was without power. I was in no mood to problem solve, so I brought a couple of heavy duty extension cords to get me through the night, and the equipment was plugged into a non-GFCI outlet. Last evening when I got home from work I figured out that my Mag12 closed loop pump that I had just removed a few days ago and cleaned in dilute muriatic acid was tripping the GFI outlet. I can't see any leaks or obvious damage to the pump, but something's causing it to trip the GFI? Any suggestions? In the meantime, I'm foolishly keeping the pump running via the extension cord until I figure out what to do. Not a true "emergency" although I don't like bypassing the GFCI. Thanks in advance, Mike
  23. I have a 30g tank, and I change 5 gallons every other week. I make up 20g of salt water at a time, so if you do the math, it takes me 2 months to use up the last of my reservoir of salt water. I keep it mixing with a MJ1200 powerhead and so far no problems. As long as the container is well sealed and you maintain circulation, I'm sure you could keep it for even longer if you wish.
  24. Addendum: Make sure to check and dip all frags you get from anyone! Nice pics, Gabriel, as usual. Mike
