  1. My first CUC was 5 snails from the Bastrop store. Was only after I got home and went to put them into the tank that I found 3 of them dead. Their no return policy for livestock turned me off buying any critters (on-line or from the stores).

  2. Josh, I jumped on Reef Cleaners 1 day sale yesterday (mainly to order the two purple sea fans in they showed in stock for $1 each), however I also ordered 2 red mangrove sets (10 total). If you can wait till the order comes in, I can give you a couple. Looks as if it will be Monday before it ships.

  3. As I haven't tried raising either one, don't know if this would work. How about feeding the clowns by dropping their food where the anemone is, each and every time. Seems as if it would be like training puppies or babies by associating the anemone with food.

  4. The dry rock I just bought from the Prof was mined inland and not taken from the ocean. I have to agree that that seems the only ecologically way to go now adays.

  5. Ric, it was $75, but it is the same one (so I was told) that they use to make their checks.

Made my first check and it is very easy to use and read, and for an old f**t like me that was

    important.

  6. A quick reference guide is the 'lighting chart' provided by Marine and Reef web site. The chart can be found in their general lighting section. The chart provides the requirements for tank capacity, physical size, and its contents.

  7. Nearly crashed my tank- Was relying on the "cheap" plastic Red Sea Hydrometer for my salinity readings. Even after topping off a few times with RO water, the meter showed it was always between 1.023-1.025. Mixed up some new saltwater to do a water change and had 3-4 readings of 1.025 so figured I was good to go. Luckily I decided first to get the tank water checked at our local Petco first. It read 1.018 (they used two different meters and both read the same). Got a sample of the salt water I mixed up and they read it as 1.020.

Can anyone suggest a good, mid price range refractometer and a source on where to buy it, either locally or on-line? I had talked to Shane and tried out a couple he used. I was going to have him order me one from his vendor, but he called yesterday and said the vendor now has a new "minimum order" amount and it would probably be a few weeks before he would be able to order from them.

    Thanks, Wayneb

  8. I am having second thoughts about the idea of being a charter member. I still think it would be a good idea for the club, however I do not want to make a monetary committment without first seeing a finalized set of rules, fees, a contract if you will.

My reason are this: Fixed limited income=a large deposit that would tie up to much money needed elsewhere or for other toys, corals, etc.

2nd is that I can't see using it more then twice a year if at all due to having to schedule usage and the availablility of it and my time. 3rd is the added cost of driving into Austin to get it and return it. There are other concerns involved (ie would multiple users negate the manufacturers warrenty) but those above are my major ones at this time.

  9. Chris:

Please - I hope you are concidering adding two dedicated 115v electric circuits from the circuit breaker box to the tank area with both going through GFI breakers. Easy to do it now then when the walls are up and plastered.

  10. Thanks for putting this together Jon. My Lobo looks just as sweet in person as it does in that photo. All three pieces do actually. I'm game for the next group buy...may get in on the Vivid one.

Dena, if you do, I can pick up our orders on Wednesday (around 12:30-1:00) and drop yours off to you on my way home.
