  1. What is your patented magnetic rock?
  2. My mom gave me a copy of this issue of Nature Conservancy, and I thought it was an awesome article. Who doesn't want to do that for a living? Check it out! http://www.nature.org/magazine/autumn2010/features/art32082.html
  3. I would like to know that method too.... for future reference!
  4. For some reason my new wavebox still makes an audible "Brrrrooooowwwwwmp" noise every time the pump turns on (so every 2 seconds or so). I've fiddled with it for days, and waited for it to break in, and bugged Bruce at Aquatek with tons of questions, and finally just decided that it sounds louder to me because it's in my tiny bedroom on a tank with no canopy... and thus I use the photocell to turn it off at night so I can sleep!
  5. Thanks for the awesome frags, Don! It was great meeting you and drooling over your tanks. It'll take all my willpower not to come up again this weekend for the other corals I wanted!
  6. All sold, thanks for your interest
  7. Oh, yeah, I forgot to mention that I can provide Styrofoam fish boxes for transport if desired.
  8. I need to sell off some of my extra live rock. I have approximately 60 pounds of nice porous rock, mostly medium sized pieces, sitting in a tub of aerated salt water in my study. First $100 takes it all! Thanks for looking.
  9. This isn't in a tank, but last summer I found a large family of Maroon clowns hosting in the same Bubble tip anemone colony as a small family of cinnamon clowns (A. melanopus) on the Great Barrier Reef. Their families lived within three feet of each other, it was awesome
  10. Mine laid eggs for the first time on St. Patrick's day!
  11. I've treated big bubbles that won't fit into my siphon hose by slicing them open with a razor blade and then immediately sucking it up. Works great. Then I got a Naso tang that loves to eat it, and I've never seen it again...
  12. Those two species of clown might not get along so well once there's an anemone to fight over... food for thought.
  13. Ha, yes, the Royal Gramma and the pygmy angel were certainly both good early choices for me! I still have both of the fishes in my avatar, they've been with me through three tank upgrades now.
  14. Your tank is beautiful, and I love your rockwork. Sorry to hear about General Akbar (what a great name for a lawnmower blenny!).
  15. I know, but I love them so I've had good luck with other delicate species like my regal angelfish, so perhaps that's made me overly optimistic!
  16. A smaller Rhinecanthus species like a Picasso trigger would do all right in a 48 gallon for a few years, since they are very slow growing and take at least seven years to reach their adult size. However, they do get big eventually, and triggers in general are not good community nor reef fish. If you think you might want butterflies or corals on down the line, I would rethink the trigger. Hawkfish, basslets, pygmy angels, gobies and jawfish can all make interesting additions to a mid-size tank. Have fun!
  17. I have a naso tang (about 4") and a blue hippo tang (about 3") in a 150 that I added on the same day. They get along fine. I have heard that it is best to either add all the tangs at once, or add the least aggressive tang first, and have also been told that when mixing tangs of different temperaments, it can help if your largest tang is also the mellowest. I might like to try my hand at an Achilles tang in the future, but I'm hesitant because I feel that might be pushing it in a 150... thoughts?
  18. Neat! That's some good-lookin' rock you got there.
  19. You might have luck with the new maroon if you divide the tank for a few days, or float him in an eggcrate basket or a colander. That will give them time to see each other without letting them fight. I've heard that can sometimes work with aggressive fish like triggers.
