  1. I ended up going with 30 pounds of aragonite. It comes out to about an inch or so. I found a couple of bags of larger grain size so the four Koralias (x3 1400, and x1 older #4) don't make a storm. I think I finally have them worked out so the flow is good, but doesn't push the sand around. Everything is doing pretty well. I will shoot some pics this week. Thanks for the kind words. I think is my favorite tank since I started.

  2. I have a RK2 and it has been in my stand since I got it (5-6 years ago). The display was mounted through the front of my last tank, but now it is inside just left of the front door. I was going to mount it outside, but I decided I don't look at it much execept when I am cleaning the skimmer in the morning which I have to open the door to do anyway. I wouldn't worry about humidity as much as spashing/salt creep. Just keep it away from the sump and you should be fine.

  3. Thanks Chris. I deleted the bookshelves and used the doors to plug the holes. Came out nice I think. I reused the plumbing you had and I have to admit I have never used a gate valve on a drain before. Honestly I thought you might be a bit crazy, but darn if it doesn't work great and with the other drain as an emergency there is little to worry about. I have never had a tank this quiet.

  4. I have a 58g (30x30x15) built by Glass Cages (1/2 inch glass). $150 with or without beat up stand. Tank has bulkheads, but no plumbing or sump. Comes with a starboard bottom that can be used or removed.

All the critters survived. Some did better than others. The clowns were very happy right from the start. Everything else was not so happy. My urchin shed all of his needles. Figured is was a gonner, but they are now growing back. My long nose hawkfish really took it hard, but after five days I guess he got over it because he is eating fine and swimming around like normal again. It was nice not to lose anything from the original crew. I did lose one out of two firefish I added though. That was probably too soon, but a caved into peer pressure from the other members of the family.

Surprisingly (at least for me) the stand was pretty darn level right from the get go. The bubble was centered in both directions. I have never had that happen before. Guess that is one of the perks of a new house sitting on ground that doesn't move. I removed the carpet so it is sitting on concrete.

Here is the stand in place. I had to build this stand to replace the nice steel stand that would not fit though my front door. You can also see my old 58g that is now empty in the garage. I need to get around to selling it soon. :)

  8. Finally got around to taking a few pictures of my 150g.

I swapped everything over from my 58g and it basically disappeared in the new tank. I am on a poor mans budget for the most part so I don't have a ton of fancy equipment, but I hope to add as I go.

    Specs:

    36x36x27 1/2 inch standard glass, 2x 1" drains, 1x 1" return

Quiet One 3000 return pump. It is very quiet and I guestimate pushes about 400gph through the sump.

    Koralia 1400, Koralia 4

    200w heater

    Reef Keeper II controller

    Octopus 150 recirculating skimmer

    30 gallon sump

  9. The nice thing about tempered is that you can drill it with just about anything and it turns out the same. :) I like to use a hammer.

Did you end up replacing all the silicone where the new panel meets the old? I have always read that new to old doesn't hold very well, but have never actually tried it.

  10. I have a 58g rimless 30x30x15. Internal overflow, 2 inch drain, x2 3/4 inch returns drilled into the back. It sits on a 40 inch stand that is in ok shape. The tank has a few scratches though and is definately not starfire, but is 1/2 inch glass and plenty sturdy. $150 for the tank and stand (and a POS canopy if you want it). It is reef ready, but does not have a sump.

  11. Yep you will likely get the stand back Sunday. I have the tank full of water/vinegar right now and the overflow is leak free so I think it is good to move tomorrow. My wife will be happy to not see the tank in the garage, but I think even more happy to not see a bare 2x4 stand in the front room anymore.

  12. I thought about the Krylon (I paint the back of the tank with it), but it tends to chip over time when subjected to movement and running water. This will be a cap to my overflow so I would rather have something solid black. Plus white is $10 a sheet anyway so I might as well get it in black.

  13. lol I was gona say after having to dig up the main water line to my house because the prev owner was a DIY person and did not use primer . There is no way I would not use it but thats 80PSI

Kind of off topic, but where are you getting 80 PSI from around here? I feel pretty lucky when my PSI gauge hits 45. :)
