  1. You guessed right on that one. It is impossible to get the rates of two pumps to be the same, especially since one will be working with gravity and the other against. That would be a flood waiting to happen. I would get the tank drilled, or drill it yourself. Drilled tanks are much more reliable than any kind of HOB in my opinion.
  2. Look for used on Reef Central. I picked up my Urchin (Sump version of the Remora) for $40. I see the Remora's go for under $100 with pump quite often and even the Remore Pro goes for close to $100 most of the time.
  3. And make sure you listen to your wife when she tells you to follow Cindy's directions. No matter how much you think you know a better way. Thanks for the great frags Cindy!!!!
  4. Woohoo! You made it! Welcome to the club! (See! I knew something would come out of me post whoring on RC!)
  5. Any chance of getting a sign or banner made up? Not sure if the city frowns on the that sort of stuff or not. Maybe some flyers although I guess the other stores in the area are probably not going to be super excited. I know when my last club had our big frag swap we made flyers and had them up in all the local stores to attract new members, but the swap was at my house.
  6. Awesome little fish. I have never been able to keep one because of the other stuff in my tank but they are super cute. Just don't eat them... Poisonous you know?

    brine

Are you feeding the brine to the fish live? I used to feed f so it gives them something to chase with I think is good for fish. I think it is healthy for fish to have to work for their food.
  8. That should do it James. You just need to lower it below the cup and it will work. What is this new setup you are hinting at?

    brine

Karen, you can still use the brine. Just soak them in selcon and they will be plenty nutritious.

    brine

You can make brine better for your fish (or sea horses) by soaking it in selcon before feeding. I feed mysid most of the time, supplemented with Dainichi Marine Reef Veggie pellets.
  11. The drain has to be lower or there is no incentive for the water to come out the drain instead of the collection cup. Water is lazy (like electricity) and will take the path of least resistance. I thought the Octopuss skimmers had an adjustable height drain?
  12. I agree with Cindy. As long as you have good water flow, light, and water quality your anemone with do fine. I never fed my RTBA's because when I did they split faster.
  13. Which model are you running? I have read that you only need low flow for these skimmers since they recirculate. I think the figure is 1.5x you tank volume, so maybe you are pushing too much water through it? The only other thing I can thing of is there is some kind of obstruction inside the drain line or you have the drain line set higher than the collection cup (unlikely).

    Live Sand

Sounds like Sean needs it more than I do.
  15. Well it didn't turn out to be as bad as it could of I guess. $184 and a couple of hours of my time. At least Chevy made the radiator easy to replace (the item itself sucks though). Who ever heard of making a radiator out of plastic? I should be back in action Wed or Fri if that will work?
  16. Well my truck cracked its radiator on the way home so I cannot make it Joseph. I can Paypal you the money to hold it if you want. Sorry. I had to pass Gabriels house with steam pouring out the front of my truck. I guess someone wants me to have a fish only tank.

    lighting?

I would scrounge up a simple two bulb normal output (40w flourscent) fixture which should be cheap (under $50) and do what you mentioned until you get the hang of everything (and are sure you want to go reef). No point in dropping a ton of cash if you don't have to. There are a ton of NO fixtures out there that poeple are selling cheap or getting rid of for free that will support a fish only tank nicely. If you really are set on going for it though I would agree with Gabriel and get a four bulb T5 fixture. Six would be even better but I am not sure you can squeeze that many over a 55g.
  18. That sounds awesome! What day/time is good for you?
  19. I would empty it at least half way too. Just looking at a 10g wrong can crack it.
  20. That would look really nice in my front room.
  21. Are those the chocolate delete that only come from the southern coast of Fiji? Man I think there are less than 20 polyps of those known to exist! LOL!!! I am not sure about driving that far but if you have some available and are going to the frag swap I would sure take some.
  22. I didn't change any more than I spilled on my old 150g. I am trying to be better about it on my 70g. So far I have changed out 5 gallons since it has been setup (3 months). I am going to try to get it to 5g a week. The more you change, the better the environment for sure. The ocean changes 24/7 and fish/corals probably never see the same water again in their lifetime. The was a thread on RC about someone living in the Virgin Islands I think (one of those little islands) who was using natural sea water pumped into his tank from the ocean (yeah house on the beach, life is rough). He just let it overflow onto the sand in front of his house. The University California Santa Barbara has a similar setup. They get theirs from about 1/2 mile of shore I think and then the run it though a sand bed filter as big as a house. My old club did a field trip to check out the setup and it was awesome. Anyway I think more is better as long as the water is matured and temp matched a bit before dumping it in. I wouldn't whip a bunch of IO and just dump it into the tank.
  23. I will actually be down your way on Monday night so that might work great. I will definately need the address again though. James took us the super secret way.
