  1. Actually I'm pretty sure Joe and I were going to do some kind of fragging demo.
  2. First off, I want to know how many of you ARC members are planning on going, then those that aren't, what would you like me to report on? John
  3. So... I don't think the Lowe's around here carries it as I looked for about 1 1/2 hours and couldn't even find an employee who knew ANYTHING about it. Another really fun fact is that the Lowe's computer system cannot search items by name. Gabe there is a good chance I'll be soliciting your help for one of these dontknow.gif
  4. Marine Depot is also running a sale on Euroreef skimmers right now that you might want to check out.
  5. Customer service on those skimmers is really great but the technology is a little dated IMO. Beckett skimmers in general use much more electricity and are not nearly as efficient as their needlewheel predecessors. They're also extremely finicky. I'd still just save the money and get an Euroreef, ASM, or other needlewheel driven skimmer.
  6. I'm impressed Andrew, that was really great!
  7. I'm fairly DIY retarded so I may have to just persuade you to make them for me Ace but I'm going to give it a shot!
  8. Where is the solar tube material specifically in Lowe's Ace if I may ask. Also, what do you use to cut the reflector material? John
  9. Ace, Any chance I could convince you to make me a reflector on a DE fixture? I have an aquamedic one right now and the reflector is made out of dented aluminum.... not so effective. John
  10. I did use Garlic and put enough in the mix so that I could smell it. I'm not talking 1/2 a bottle or anything but you want to be able to tell that garlic is indeed in the mix. I personally think trace elements translate into "algae fuel" and do water changes to take care of any trace needs. The only thing I supplement for is calcium, carbonate hardness, and magnesium occasionally. To modify this into a coral only food recipe I'd look at the corals you are feeding in the tank, and blend a particle size useful to them.
  11. Thanks Jim, that's exactly what I was thinking about. Just fill those with sand so they sink and you're good to go. Only problem with these plugs is that they're much better for mounting stony coral that grows upwards.
  12. I got a beautiful little Potter's Angel and some Tropic Marin Pro today. Thanks Carlos!
  13. They are literally called "floral plugs". Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm fairly sure they sell them at Michael's (the craft store).
  14. Everytime I've seen them, definitely more yellow with a red face.
  15. Boston aquaculture I think it is makes frag plugs that are extremely cheap and fit into eggcrate. The other REALLY easy thing to do would be to get flower plugs (from a florist), fill them with sand, and bingo bango you're finished.
  16. That tank would probably get real hot, real quick unless you lit it with some t-5 or VHO's. Scratching acrylic really isn't as easy as everyone fears... plus it's inexpensive, easily custom made, and carries no green tinge like normal glass.
  17. Part 3 was 3 times better for sure... I've heard of rock boring urchins, sponges, worms, but never a crab. I'd fancy that you little crab friend killed and ate a worm then stole his wonderful digs.
  18. Sounds like a Tremor to me.... see movies 1, 2, and 3 for eradication methods cya.gif
  19. I'd like to comment on the order of the sections as well. I personally would have the water overflow into the skimmer chamber. Anthony Calfo recommends this to increase skimmer efficiency. This chamber would then overflow into the fuge then finally to the return. I also agree with the observation that the chamber for the skimmer is in fact quite small. What skimmer where you considering using to help you design a large enough chamber?
  20. All, I ended up getting a bigger tank and now have an oceanic 30 gallon cube for sale. The cube has been drained for 2 inch returns and a Calfo overflow. The sump hold approx 15 gallons and was made by David at Trigger Systems (www.triggersys.com). The stand is the standard oceanic stand for the cube that I took the door off of long ago. Looking to get a $150 for the whole thing.
  21. Looks like a green coris to me, and this is VERY stange. Usually you can just pry the fish out of the clam and the fish will make it through no problem. Just remember not to tear their foot and you should be fine.
  22. You have to stay the night!!! Which presentation do you deem worthless enough to miss lol happy2.gif
  23. All of it depends on fish and coral load. This is a down the middle, run of the mill recipe but anything specific just ask.
  24. Haha I can get drunk with a bunch of fish dorks (myself included) and stumble back to my hotel room happy2.gif
  25. Many of you asked that I post the recipe I used at this past meeting. Well here it is: Again this is a recipe originally recommended by Borneman, used by Marc Levenson (Melev) and modied furthur by myself.
