Aquatek had a cool looking one (about the size of a huge pecan. It was white with yellow and blueish highlights - I believe), but that was last Friday when I saw it. Lee
  2. I know that I never had a problem with River City's water and they are now offering premixed Tropic Marin water at $1.50 a gallon or IO water at $1.00 a gallon. Lee
  3. Keep an eye on ebay for used MH kits. I picked up a Sunlight Supply dual 250 HQI ballast and (2) Reef Optix III pendants for only $300!! Find what you would like and watch for a good deal. For new kits (in addition to above) try www.reefgeek.com and www.championlighting.com. Lee
  4. Best source is to go to the AKC website (www.akc.org) and find local breeders on their list. You may have to get on a waiting list, but you DON'T want to buy from Newspaper breeders. Folks who truly know the breeds are very selective in breeding and will do tests (depending on the typical maladies a breed tends to suffer from). Yes, you may pay a little more, but a great example is a lady in our church wanted a couple of labs and I recommended the same to her. Instead, she bought two from a newspaper add for $400 total. Now, for $600 or $800 she could have bought from an AKC breeder that gets inspected and does tests. Both dogs ended up with a breed ailment. After $2,000 on vet bills one died and the other is sickly. For that much, she could have bought two from a selective breeder!! Happens time and time again. Be very careful, particulary with large breeds as they tend to have a shorter lifespan and serious hip and knee issues. My grandfather raised English Bulldogs for 30 years and showed around the country. I grew up in that environment and have heard many sad stories from folks who bought their "dream dog" only to find out something horrible later. The breed you are looking at is a GOB of fun if you love big dogs. I am trying to talk the wife into a Neaopolitan Mastiff someday (she has to get over the drooling issues). Later, Lee
  5. Depending upon where you at, I have a barely used 20 gallon long and powersweep (not sure the model). PM if interested. I'm in Georgetown. Lee
  6. I love finding corals that are reality unknown are not that available (usually because they haven't been declared rare or given a cutsey name) for almost nothing. This thing opens up like a scolymia at night but has such thin tissue. It actually swells (the tissue) at night as weel. Developing some sweet rainbow like colors as well!! I will have to figure out if this frags like other corals that Anthony Caflo says by just running it face first into a ceramic tile saw. Lee
  7. I've been having the same result for the past few days now. It also doesn't return all the true new posts for me. I have posted a few to test and it won't return them. Now having said that, this forum rocks. I am impressed with how far it has already come. Wish I had the knowledge on how to solve the problem. I hate just pointing out things that aren't working. On the other hand, there are 8,735 things working great Andrew. T.D. Jakes, well known African-American Pastor said, "Don't bring me problems, bring me solutions. I have plenty of problems." Sorry I don't know the solution. Keep up the good work. Lee
  8. Not all of them. This species has one large mouth. Very cool coral. The store I got it from had no idea what it was. Nice $20 find!!!! Lee
  9. Well, no more guesses so I suppose I will share: Echinophyllia nishihirai. Yep, it is an Echino. Sprung actually has a nice photo and ID in his Corals book. Lee
  10. No, not necessarily, what you don't want are two powerheads at different levels just shooting straight across the tank. If you have two, put one at top on one side and angle 45 degrees down, put other at bottom of side and angle 45 degree upward to collide and produce some turbulence. Having said that, Andrew's suggestion is the best. Lee
  11. Most corals dont' like direct, laminar flow which is what many powerheads produce so you want clashing flows, bouncing flows, etc. Try to angle so you get a variety of movements. Lee
  12. When does the 6055 come out? That is a good idea, I am not a fan of the bulky look of the other Tunzes as well. Lee
  13. One of the biggest reasons I want to change is to reduce the number of motors in the tank to reduce heat. My tank is running at 78 to 80 right now with the ambient temperature in the low 70's in the room. I am sure that each MJ probably adds at least 1 degree in temperature or close thereabouts (would be a neat experiment assuming you could keep everything else constant). If I can remove 3 to 4 powerheads from my tank that will save on energy and heat to tank. I too must admit I have a hard time coughing up so much for powerhead. But when I saw my first nanostream in action I could tell a big difference. I was more or less wondering which model number would suffice for a 75. You see a lot of guys that think bigger is better and then they are selling or trading a 6100 because of sand storms or downed corals. I wanted to buy right the first time. Lee
  14. Yea, I was actually at Aquatek today and they were out of every stream and nanostream. I was going to ask him, but he wasn't there this morning. Just thought I would give this spot a shot first. Thanks, Lee
  15. When will you be available for us to come by? I can bring some more bags and I have a container for the rock. Thanks, Lee P.S. what is your paypal?
  16. I would love to head down, but I am a pastor and have a team leader meeting after church so I can't make the meeting on Sunday . Maybe we can make the next on. We could talk motorcycles!!! I have a Honda 1300 VTX retro model. Lee
  17. I'll give it until tomorrow and if no one gets it by then, I will share the name. Lee
  18. I'll give it until tomorrow and if no one gets it by then, I will share the name. Lee
  19. l would love to!! Randy at River City is always telling me about your stuff. Fridays are my day off, are you ever around during the day on Friday? If not, Saturdays are also usually ok except this one as I am helping my son with his science project. Lee
  20. That would be correct, it isn't a scolymia. That was what I figured it would be as well. To give you a feel, a search on Reef Central on the latin name had about 5 or 6 hits. Here are some hints: 1.) The flesh is very thin. 2.) There is only one "mouth" and there are short tentacles around the mouth at night. 3.) It isn't "meaty" in any sense of the word. 4.) It is a part of a very popular coral genus. Lee
  21. Ok guys and gals, just posting for a little Friday evening fun: Who can correctly ID this to Genus and species (no common names)? Here is a hint, it probably isn't what you think. I purchased this over the Christmas holidays at a LFS in Norman, Oklahoma. Try to get it without the books (but I will tell you I have only found one picture and very few Reef Central references to this coral). Best of Luck, Lee
  22. Alright, I have a question concerning which Tunze would you recommend for my 75 Gallon mixed LPS/SPS tank. Currently, there is are (2) MJ1200's, (1) MJ600, (2) Tunze Nanostreams. Most corals don't like the direct flow of the MJ's on them and needless to say I'm sure I could reduce heat input to the tank by replacing most with one Tunze. I can only afford one large Tunze so which one should I get? I would like to keep (1) nanostream and (1) MJ 1200 in the tank. The MJ 1200 is at the bottom behind the live rock. And then does anyone have a used one of whatever is recommended that they want to sell? ; ) Thanks, Lee
  23. How about a small piece of the yellow/red favia you have? No money needed, I put in the ad trade a frag for the RO/DI and Litermeter. Lee
