  1. I was tlaking to carlos at rca today and he was saying that nano is mostly stuff from the store that didn't sell. stuff that was in tank for (some of it) up to months before they finally decided to put it into the display. the runt of the litter wins again so to speak
  2. can i submit a diff pic i just realized how much that pic sucks the lights were out i had to turn them on for the pic
  3. I was actually just looking at the zoos you have for 25. green/brown/blue right do you still have some left?? i will have to wait until my tax refund comes and have to talk to the family accountant, but im interested if you still have some left
  4. if they are the ones i think you are talking about i believe they are rock anemone's ill see if i can find something out about them. and the reply hope that helps ill see if i can find more later
  5. ok im looking for zoo's lots of them , i have like 5 polyps of brown and green soon should have some xenia and kenya tree to trade but otherwise im looking for free or to buy for cheap. all colors sizes and number of polyps also looking for a lot of the other stuff like devils hand torches, galaxia, others like frogspawn, hammers... etc ***edit*** oh and rics too they are my absolute favorite
  6. Since i'm new to this club how many people have nano's (under 30g) or pico's for that matter? what do you have in them? what kind of setup is it? tell me about them Tell ya about mine: 24g jbj nanocube pretty much stock, taken out some of the sponge in the back added some more carbon and live rock rubble back there had POS Fission skimmer but see another thread for how that worked out. since i just moved things have changed i ditched the old sand and put in the pavestone pulverised limestone probably 10lbs, 23-25 lbs LR. I was using the IO salt but my dad (not as inclined as I am) felt more comfortable buying the water so it has had Kent salt for the past three months. i still have some left but not sure whether to change to kent or revert back to IO. As for inhabitants: so far I have 5 green chromis i got on a trade, one false perc (my dad wanted to see some color swimming around), Lots of crabs (blue leg, and Zebra) a few snails (need many more), softies: 2 blue green rics (one with 2 mouths) A GBTA who has been hiding for the past year is very small but seems to be hanging in there. 1 single head of hammer coral (green w/ pink tips) Kenya tree, Xenia (just cut it all out and gave it away but it will grow back), some awesome really bright yellow polyps, a few zoas (like 6 polyps) Big GSP rock. Two BIG pink mushrooms (i think one is splitting so make it 3) I think that is it if i remember ill edit it on later. I am always looking for Zoas of any type or color. and im cheap so i'll take just about anything that is free thats my tank what about yours????????
  7. from talking to people from DFWMAS that went on that port A trip they found many cool fish and lots of macro. i didn't hear much about corals specifically but heard alot about peppermint shrimp. A LOT about pep's. i would like to go for some catch and release and maybe a shrimp or two. but like was said above the laws get funny depending on what you are collecting.
  8. I have to second that the fission is a POS. i got one on a trade and cant stand the darn thing. i used it for three weeks the "skimmate" if that is what you want to call it was so wet that you couldn't tell it was anything but water with some bubbles. It fits in the back of the jbj in the center section ut just barely and you cant have anything in there with it. Personally save you money, but if anyone would like to try one out ill trade for it need some zoo's
  9. Gabriel- does the offer for a few of those ric's still stand? if so i would like to take you up on them soon. let me know
  10. gabriel i just looked at you sig and saw your location i worked at Medic 18 right down the street before the schedule changed in jan, that fire station near braker and parkield, apparently i have driven near you MANY times.
  11. OK im here (have been for three months) and my tank will be tomorrow in a place in buda across from cabela's so here are my few questions 1-LFS around here been to horizon aquatics nice store found a few others in the phone book and online but im looking for the hidden jems any ideas 2-anyone wanna help me setup the tank tomorrow when i get it in town not looking forward to it. 3-what is y'alls opinion? ditch the substrate and start over i have some but it needs a REALLY good washing and i dont think i have enough water to do that. I can vacuum the substrate but im worried about the toxin release, should i just buy new substrate? and clean the other later? i dont know. I know i am going to have to take it all out of the tank anyway. 4- anyone seen that pavestone Pulverised Limestone at HD around here? good substrate
  12. hey i just moved to buda from dallas area I was wondering if there was anyone in the hobby close to me. guess so. i have been in austin area since october but my tank has been up in dallas still. im bringing it down tomorrow wanna help with setup??? hehe
  13. man the first meeting now that i am in town and the academy will have us out on a challenge course that weekend, maybe December i guess
  14. ok the days left in dallas are dwindling. I will be moving down to austin on sat the 28th, and putting all our stuff into storage. then ill be crashing at a buddies place for a week, then staying at some extended stay place for another 2 weeks. then hopefully we will be renting a house just before thanksgiving. we are looking in plum creek in kyle found a house we can afford and stuff. so anyway looking forward to meeting some of you in the future. and im going to have to find all the LFS down there. GKarshens did you ever find a fair price for those rics? man i like the look of those.
  15. only reason i cant think of is if it is not available. it is hit and miss up here but i have found more than a few that carry it. i would call around
  16. did you get it from a guy od the dfwmas if so who ?
  17. on marc's site he has instructions for how to build that viewing box. since i live so close to marc if anyone has him build something i could bring it down on my next trip.
  18. well i have some sand in some buckets but it need rinsed VERY well. anyone know where i can get some of the starboard to put under the rock so i dont damage the glass? i only need like 20x22 so i can trim it down. i had never thought of barebottom for those 2 months good idea.
  19. well i got the offical word yesterday, and i will be moving to austin at the end of october. I was offered a job with Austin/Travis Counry EMS as a medic. the pay is so good i would be crazy to turn it down. Still not sure where we are going to live yet but i will figure that out soon. they way we are going to work it is this... i am going to go stay with a friend for the first couple of weeks until i find a roommate for a bit. during that time my wife and daughter are going to stay with her parents in huntsville, while i look for a house for us. now since i am not going to be in any place permenant i cant take the tank with me, but it can go with my wife and she will take care of it, then i will have to move it again from huntsville to austin before christmas. couple questions 1. I know how to move the tank for 30 minutes, done that once. but how in the H##L do i move it from Ft. Worth to Huntsville. because it will be one big move. not multiple trips. 2. once it gets setup in H-town then what damage am i going to do to it when i up and move it again in 2 months? i am going to do my best not to disturb the sandbed. am i going to crash my tank by moving it that much. if i didn't love it so much i would sell off what is in it and just get new stuff in austin, but i love my fish. is there any place that i can house them for 2 months?and how much would it cost to house something like that at an LFS? 3. how does this sound for a plan? tank and stand are the last things loaded, fish come out into bags, corals come out into bags, rock comes out into bucket with lid, water already made at new location, save as much old water as possible to prevent shock. Add rock and water, add corals and fish. measure measure measure? is stuff going to be ok in the bags for the trip? and what do i do about the rock with the xenia, kenya tree, and GBTA on it, i can frag the KT and Xenia but what abotu teh GBTA? sorry this si so long i am just worried for my little wet friends, and dont want anything to happen to them.. any ideas would be appreciated THanks Rob
  20. Mojo, i am interested, but right now i am having trouble with the logistics of getting my tank down there. because i will be staying at a friends for a few weeks and my family wont be down until thanksgiving. since i wont have a "home" it will be hard to have a tank there until thanksgiving. addboy, thanks for the offer for the pom pom but im going to have to pass there is so much of it up here in dallas people cant give it away. speaking of logistics im going to post a thread in the open forums about the move.thanks for reminding me
  21. once i get my 55 up after the move i will be using that sand
  22. how do you post pics here? that is one thing i haven't figured out. do i have to use something liek photobucket? or can i ust post them from my HD
