Didn't realize how good we had it in Austin...

I didn't realize just how good we have it here in Austin. This weekend I was in Houston, and stopped in to one (rather large) fish store down there.. it was awful! The place reeked of mold, the carpet squished under my feet... despite the large size their selection was nowhere near as good as any of our local shops, and their prices were even worse than the more expensive of the Austin stores.

I fly to NJ on occasion for work and I recently stopped in a LFS there...truly one of the biggest selections of healthy saltwater stock (fish & corals) I've ever seen. They even had a Clarion Angel for sale. Problem, though, was that they were ridiculously expensive.

How expensive, you might be thinking? Here's an idea: Assorted damsels were $18.99 each.

I was in Houston this weekend and happened to stumble on Fish Gallery. What an amazing store! Beautiful display tanks. All their fish for sale looked very healthy. Prices seemed ok to me. High on some stuff but lower on others. All in all I was pretty impressed.

Was this store on 290? Aquarium World? I can't think of any other store that has carpet on the floor. There are so many stores in Houston, "we" really have it great here, lots of selections, frags for as low as $4.99. If you recall what street you were on, I can probably tell you what store you were at, but you are right, there are some really bad stores here, but seem to do quite well in regards to sales.
