Mantis Shrimp Eyes Might Inspire New High-Def Devices

OK... I'm gonna go on a limb here...

There are aliens. They have landed. And they are Mantis Shrimp...

I mean seriously. Circular polarized light? WTF!!! Thier claws have more force than we can create with advanced technology for the same size. They had to be thrown in thier own little genus that seems unrelated to just about anything else. They are able to communicate with each other using polarized light on the "paddles" that they have. Hell, if these things got any bigger or developed lungs we would have a serious run for our money as the primary species on this planet. If there is any creature that is a real "bug eyed monster" from another planet, this is it.

The only thing that points to them being from earth is that they are tasty to me. Kinda like a shrimp tasting lobster meat.

Scary freaking little custraceans.

My understanding is that the incidents of mantis shrimps breaking glass in tanks are seriously exagerrated. It has happened but usually the glass was thin or weak already.

However, if you have 1/2" glass I'm assuming this is a larger tank. Mantis are generally reccomended for specie specific tanks. They are certianly not reef safe. Anything that moves that is small enough for it to catch, it will. And they can catch and eat a lot of critters, fish, cephlopods ect.
