raymond_62002
I have a 55 gallon tank thats been up for 6 months. I have these shrimp like critters in the rocks, crushed coral. Loads of them. There are no fish, just snails, crabs and feather dusters. What kind of fish can i get to lower the population or get rid of this. Also is this a problem? +Dena
They are probably amphipods.
muddybluewater
Amphipods similar to copepods, they are good for the system. They are filter feeders that will help keep your tank clean. They will also be a secondary food source for some fish later.

PeeperKeeper
Yes, some people (like me for instance) pay the occasional $20 to buy the bottle of 'pod seeding solution so I can be sure there are enough little critters for my Mandarin to eat. Others just find someone like yourself and borrow or buy some macro-algae or rocks from your tank to transfer the pods that live in them over to their tank. Definitely consider yourself lucky! Get a Mandarin. They are the most beautiful fish IMO, and they do better when there are live pods for them to feed on.
