reefman
I have two 250W HQI's I'm thinking about hanging over my corner tank, which would replace the current Geismann single 250W HQI. If I do that, how would I ease the tank up to the increased lighting? Right now, I have the Geismann on for 9 hours a day. Stephen
Noodle
Get a bunch of window screen mesh (4-5) and put it over your tank. Every other day, just remove a window screen. This will gradually acclimate your corals to the increased lighting.
reefman
Are you talking about just window screens (the things that keep the mosquitoes out)? Stephen
Noodle
Yup, that's the stuff. You can buy a huge roll of that stuff at Home Depot/Lowes for around $5, if I remember correctly.
reefman
Cool, thanks. So you would recommend that as opposed to changing the number of hours per day I run them at? Stephen
Noodle
I've had more success with the window screen method. With the hour reduction process, it's a dramatic jump from 1 HQI one day and the next, it's 2 HQIs just at a shorter time period.
reefman
OK, makes sense. Looks like another trip to Home Despot. Stephen
