stoneroller Posted April 22, 2024 Posted April 22, 2024 I'm in dire need of aiptasia control (been down the chemical, filefish, peppermint roads; haven't risked the copperband attempt). Checking to see if anyone has adults berghia locally. Will trade corals or pay cash. Otherwise, any recommendations for purchasing from online vendors? Any leads appreciated. Thanks Kevin Quote
Timfish Posted April 23, 2024 Posted April 23, 2024 I don't have any at the moment, but I always get hem from Salty Underground when I need them. Edit: Looks like they're out of stock at the moment. Quote
stoneroller Posted April 23, 2024 Author Posted April 23, 2024 Thanks Tim. Any other measures I should try? Quote
Timfish Posted April 24, 2024 Posted April 24, 2024 Best bet is to get something to eat them (my preference are berghia). I've tried all the commercial products with only limited success. I've even pulled out rocks and scrubbed them out of hiding holes using small brushes and hydrogen peroxide only to have them pop back up after a week or so, albiet much smaller. Quote
barderer Posted September 18, 2024 Posted September 18, 2024 Little late of this but I have found the peppermint shrimp caught at the packery channel in port A. to be good at eating aiptasia. There are two variants you will catch there. https://peerj.com/articles/3786/ The ones you want to go for have thicker red stripes. You can catch them easily by going at low tide, at night, with a red light. Shine the light down the rocks and you will see the reflection in their eyes. Then just put your net in the water and pull it up against the rocks. 1 Quote
stoneroller Posted September 18, 2024 Author Posted September 18, 2024 It's never too late! Thank you for sharing. By thicker red stripes do you mean L. wurdemanni ? 1 Quote
barderer Posted September 18, 2024 Posted September 18, 2024 I don't know for sure but they kind of look like "Lysmata hochi". E.g. very thick stripes. But apparently boggessi, wurdemanni or hochi will work. https://www.reeflex.net/tiere/8816_Lysmata_hochi.htm Looks like Sep 22 might be a good night to go. https://www.tide-forecast.com/locations/Port-Aransas-Texas/tides/latest 1 Quote
