irishtexan
I was wondering if anyone knows how to make frag plugs. I saw somewhere that you can get a thimble, fill it with sand, and then put a couple drops of regular super glue and it bonds almost instantly. texx
thedude
Boston aquaculture I think it is makes frag plugs that are extremely cheap and fit into eggcrate. The other REALLY easy thing to do would be to get flower plugs (from a florist), fill them with sand, and bingo bango you're finished. irishtexan
Thanks! What are flower plugs? texx
thedude
They are literally called "floral plugs". Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm fairly sure they sell them at Michael's (the craft store).
Jimbo
I think I remember that Hobby Lobby had them, but I was unable to find them at Michael's. Here's a link to a page that has them, so you can get an idea of what they look like and how much they will cost. They come in a lot of different sizes, but you need to look them up as "water tubes" or "flower water tubes". 3.5" water tubes Or different sizes / colors Jim
thedude
Thanks Jim, that's exactly what I was thinking about. Just fill those with sand so they sink and you're good to go. Only problem with these plugs is that they're much better for mounting stony coral that grows upwards.
Jimbo
Only problem with these plugs is that they're much better for mounting stony coral that grows upwards. plus they seem to be made longer than they used to be. So now they all seem to be about 2.5 inches at the smallest, but you might be able to cut them down. For softie frags, I like to take ugly base/live rock and smash it with a hammer . Lots of little frag plugs.
irishtexan
ok. Thanks guys. I think I might just have to go with the rock rubble but it just looks so bad. Has anyone actually made them using a thimble? texx
