I notice it gets very hot, are there any recommendations on other pumps that wont get as hot that are around the 1200 gph range that are a reasonable price? jestep Posted May 13, 2016 Share Posted May 13, 2016 What do you consider reasonable $? Something like an eheim compact 5000 would probably be my first choice as far as AC pumps go. I currently use the 2000 and 3000 in my tanks and they are great. They're quiet and do not produce much heat. Tunze and sicce make very similar pumps in operation and size. If you want to spend a little more, there's a few DC pumps which are going to be better all around. Variable flow rate and they're basically completely silent. I've seen enough of the jebao DC pumps die, I'm not sure I'd trust one yet, but I've heard the newest model is improved. I've never cared for mags because of the heat and they're often really loud.
