12_egg_omelette
Howdy all, I have a small aphasia on a live rock that just poked it's head out. I went to HEB to try to find pickling lime so I could mix the two as someone has mentioned previously, but I couldn't find any. This brings me to my question, could I take some aqua mend roll it up and put a top of superglub on the back and just plug up the aphasia and have it die that way? I know the potential it has to replicate very quickly so I'm wanting to take care of it pretty soon.
FarmerTy
I'd remove the rock and chip that piece of rock off if at all possible. I've seen them sneak right around the epoxy through a small opening in the live rock and continue to spread.
nvrEnuf
nice part about a 12 gallon tank should be the ability to do exactly that.
Reburn
I agree with Ty. If you really want an aptaisa free system nip this problem in the bud today don't wait for tomorrow.
12_egg_omelette
How far back do these things go? I could take a drill bit and knock that piece off. I have a piece of frog spawn that's epoxyied to the rock, should I chip that off? Afterwards should I give it about three good rinses in LR and then toss it back into the tank. 12_egg_omelette
I don't know if this is a clear picture. I was thinking using an sugar drill bit. Do these go straight back or to they weave side to side? Reburn
They can go a way back. I use the claw end of a framing hammer and just tap tap. I would just pull the rock. Chippy chippy and then put it back. Try to pop your frag spawn off in the water they don't like to come out of the water. And mentally mark where the little sucker is. Sometimes they will close up and disappear.
FarmerTy
They like to dig their feet deep into a crevice if possible so I just take a flathead screwdriver and a hammer and just give one little tap to chip a whole piece off. IMO, losing a small piece of my live rock is worth the trouble of aiptasia infesting my tank. I honestly can't see the aiptasia so I can't help with a best method to remove it. You could always just use a mini torch and cook the one area it's in or even try boiling hot water on it if you can't chip.
12_egg_omelette
What about liquid nitrogen? Would that work? He's to the right and a little to the bottom of what looks like an orange spot on the rock. Reburn
DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES BOIL LIVE ROCK IN YOUR HOUSE. IF YOU MUST, OUTSIDE ONLY. STAY OUT OF THE STEAM. http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2253493
FarmerTy
Good call Reburn, I meant boil hot water and then apply to the aiptasia.
Reburn
I know Ty. I just wanted to clear that up. So we don't loose a member and his family to boiling a rock in his house.
Reburn
Omlete, If you could circle the suspect aiptaisia with a photo editor and repost the pic. I can't see it either.

Reburn
Hammer and screwdriver and chip off underneath it taking about a dime size piece of rock with it. Do it outside of the tank. Resist hard mounting anything else into your rock for about 2 months. If ALL of your LR is clean of aiptaisia in 2 months you should be good. 12_egg_omelette
Mechanical removal tonight is the plan, I think I'm going to use a hole saw to be on the safe side.
FarmerTy
Those tile nibblers work great too if you have any pair laying around.
12_egg_omelette
Don't have those. Figured going all mid evil on that apatasia like the pawn shop scene from pulp fiction. Release the gimp. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Bpb
Walmart on Texas ave and 2818 has pickling lime in the canning section.
12_egg_omelette
Thanks. I just hit it with a hole saw, that sucker is gone. Took about 5 seconds and about 5 minutes in total. Did 4 washes in salt water before adding it back to the tank. Just to make sure nothing got left on the rock.
