Kohl531
So I just picked up a turbo snail (yes Rivercity only had one left) and when I put him in my tank, my box fish picked on him for a second then swam away. Since that, the little snail has not moved anywhere. I thought he was dead but when I pocked at him, it appeared to agitate him enough to move out of his shell a little and then go back in. This is my first turbo snail so I am not sure how much they are supposed to move. I dont want him to die and then contaminate my entire tank. What are your thoughts? Should he be moving all around or just be staying in one place
Wade
They should move around like other snails. How long has it been in the tank?
Kohl531
Its been in the tank since Saturday afternoon. Right when I put him in the tank, my inquisitive boxfish went over to meet him and kind of picked at him for a second. Since that he does not really move at all. mFrame
Did you acclimate it? Inverts are more susceptible to shock than fish.
Kohl531
Yeah, he sat in the bag for 20-30 minutes, and slowly introduced water into the bag. Should I take him out and let him die.
Planeden
from the reefcleaners.org acclimation page, snails may go dormant for 3 days. of course, this is mail order snails, so i'm not sure it applies to locally purchased. http://www.reefcleaners.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=17&Itemid=
Wade
One dead snail won't contaminate your tank I wouldn't think. Give him a couple of days or put him on your rock and see if he takes off.
