Kinda seems like he builds really really really nice dioramas (yeah that's three reallys) and then just puts them behind glass/under water. I like it, but if you wanna see some work like this that is just jaw dropping look up some of the planted tank contest photos from over in Europe and Japan. The aquascapes some of those hobbyists are able to create with their planted tanks to me are the absolute epitome of difficulty to create and cannot be matched in beauty in a tank. I know it's blasphemy to say being a reefer, but what actually drove me to the salty side was realizing I'd never be skilled enough to create some of those planted tank aquascapes, and I wanted a great looking tank, for easier.
