Wade
What's the best type of anemone for a clown fish? I'm looking to add my first anemone in about a month and would like to get one my 8-year clown will appreciate. I have metal halide lights so lighting shouldn't be a problem. Suggestions? George Monnat Jr
Here's a web site that shows natural matches. The anemone "hosts" and the clownfish "associates". http://saltaquarium.about.com/od/anemoneclownfishprofiles/tp/tpclownanemonematches.htm
jestep
Do a lot of research on the anemones before choosing one. BTA's and long tips and the like are pretty easy. Carpets and ritteri are all very difficult, ritteri almost impossible, or require species only tanks.
Wade
That's a great site. Immediately bookmarked:) I was wanting a leathery anemone so I'm glad to hear it's a good match for my clown. Has anyone had any issues with getting one shipped? LiveAquaria has a blue-tip that would be nice.
jestep
Local shops have sabae's all the time if you want to see one in person. I'm pretty sure aqua dome always has a few in there. Also, if your clown is captive bred, it may be very difficult or impossible to get her to host anything, worth keeping in mind.
George Monnat Jr
Be careful about bleached anemones. Some are pale naturally, but for many anemones if they are white they are bleached. That means they've lost their photosynthetic zooxanthellae. They'll be prone to dying and will need to be nursed back to health. Edit: a dead anemone can nuke your tank, too.
