polarbear
Got my RO DI unit set up today. Wanted to know if I can use the water right away or do I have to disgarde some first?
NonSequitur
I usually discard the first 6-12 gallons (I have 2 pressurized 3gal storage tanks) whenever I change membranes, filters, etc, just in case. I also use my RO for drinking water, so I tend to be more careful for that reason. IMHO it's always better to waste a little water than to use some some that is of unknown quality, you can always use it to water plants or some other non-sensitive purpose. +mcallahan
and make sure you flush out your carbon stages before you add in the DI stage. I didn't used to do this until I did it one time. Man that water was black for a couple of minutes!
polarbear
Dang I had already started it before I saw your post about flushing the carbon blocks. So even if the water coming out has 0 TDS I still have to disgarde it? I have a dual TDS meter on it. 6 coming out of the carbon blocks and 0 coming out after the DI. Elizzy
I used my water right away without discarding any. No ill effects were suffered. (I did flush the carbon block, however ) Actually, I think I did discard the first gallon as per instructions... polarbear
Ya I went ahead and discarded the first 4 gallons yesterday then filled up the 5 gallon bucket again for the water change today. Thanks for all of the help and advice.
