JamesL
Probably not a good idea, as you do not know what type of contaminants are going to be in the sand. Would be better to start out with "clean" sand
caferacermike
Also, sand is not sand is not sand. What goes into an aquarium is calcium based. Typically called Aragonite. Beach sand is generally terrestrial rocks that have been eroded by the crashing waves. This is typically quartz based.
medi
Beaches are nasty....Use fresh storebought sand.

ScubaSteve
thank you all for your responses. the sand does look very nice here and is very tempting but not worth killing everything i get over. thanks again guys!
prof
I have plenty of clean, sugar fine, white, crushed coral samd for sale, $1 per pound. As long as you clean beach i see no problems using it but a couple of things to think about. Silica sand has sharper edges and may pose problems for bottom dwellers Silica sand can cause phosphate problems. You may not be allowed to legally collect sand. Its a pain to collect, transfer, clean, your own sand.
