Sea Salt

Are there any brands of salt that are just sea salt. You know, salt from the ocean. I like the mixes and all but I want to try just straight up salt from the ocean. I seem to recall you used to be able to buy it but I can't find it anymore.

I of course mean big bags of it meant for aquarium use, not the stuff in bulk at Whole Foods.

I think you can only find it in water form (not dry form).... and I forget what the brand name is (Edit: found it Nutri Sea Water).

I doubt you could do a dry form a "just evaporated sea water" as there would be left over organics, and some minerals would probably evaporate out also.

I would be interested in seeing how nutriseawater affects a reef tank. It sounds like they are marketing "live water." Not sure how that is worthwhile if you have liverock and sand.

I could swear there used to be a readily available seasalt brand for aquariums. Maybe I made that up.

I would stick to a salt mix of some kind. They have been developed to include ideal concentrations of calcium, magnesium, strontium and other trace elements as well as buffers for PH and Alkalinity.

Red Sea claims to use salt evaporated from the Red Sea water.

I was going to say Red Sea but someone beat me to it.

My understanding is that they pull water from the sea and desalinate it through RO/DI processes. The dried salt is left to bake in the sun and then packaged.

Red Sea has been around since before saltwater. Should be able to find it in town no problem. Most stores may be stocking more of the Red Sea Pro as they have added a little more CA and such.
