Tim and Kendra
I Have had my tank set up for about a month now and have already gone through the brown algae stage and the tank was looking really good. Now I am getting green algae on the tank glass and a little on the rocks. i clean it about every 2-3 days because it keeps coming right back. I have checked the water parameters and everything looks good. Is there something that will help with this problem?? I have the MH light on for 8 hours and the other lights on for 10 hours. I have the temp of the water at 76-77. If anyone could help it would be great and I thank you in advance. Thanks, Tim
DaJMasta
High nitrates or phosphates can do this to you quite easily, what do your water parameters look like? I'm actually battling a similar problem in a tank that's about as old and the clean up crew additions have been really great for it. Specifically hermits, some crabs, snails, etc.
Brooks
Hey Tim. Every 2-3 days is isn't too bad. Thats a little closer to the normal side, actually. I'm having the same problem, however, I get the rebuild of algae every 30 minutes - 3 hour. What it is, or so I've been told, is a diatom bloom. Perfectly normal with "new" tanks, or tanks that have been set up recently.
+dapettit
What are your water params? Is the algae hariry? How much and how often do you feed? Do you use tap water or ro/di water to top off? We can better help you with this information.
Zarathustra2
Sounds like you need a clean up crew to eat that algae up. There is a reefcleaners group buy that should help.
