  1. I noticed you described your tang as "tiny" - from what I've heard, when tangs are very small they are extremely delicate and susceptable to disease - maybe this had something do do with it.
  2. Interested! Just depends on the date - we'll be going out of town later this month and I need to make sure we'll be here to pick up the order!
  3. Thanks for organizing the order, August and Jake! Everything looks better than I expected And thanks alot to Mcallahan for picking up for us northies!
  4. Ah, that makes sense. And I have several fish that like to burrow. Guess I'll hang on to those pieces.
  5. interesting... the heavy pieces are non-porous and so they aren't effective when it comes to filtering? Do they serve any other purpose besides taking up room in my tank? Or maybe we have different definitions of "heavy"... that could just be my chicken muscles talking.
  6. Oh, good idea about setting some of the sand aside! Thanks mcallahan. Is there any particular method that's more effective for cleaning sand? I planned on filling a bucket 1/3 full of sand, and filling it with hose water - mixing it up and letting the water overflow till it looked clear. It works in my head, but someone please tell me if there's a better way! Yup, I was referring to the weight of the rock. I pulled an unbelievable amount out - it overflowed a large (60 gal?) trash bin, and most of the pieces were heavy. It made me think that maybe the tiny frag of duncans I put in a couple of days ago could have been the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back! haha.
  7. So my tank sprung a leak and I had to empty everything. I'm wondering what to do with the sand when I put it back in - would this be a good time to rinse it all out? The sand that was in the back looked pretty grody - lots of junk in it. I'm hoping to avoid a giant nitrite spike when I dump it all back in, but I'm also worried about losing the benefits of my live sand by washing it .... any opinions? Also, while hauling pound after pound of live rock out of my leaking tank, I began to wonder if the leak was caused by having too much rock. How much is too much?
  8. Is there anyone in the North area that I might be able to coordinate with for pickup?
  9. What a gorgeous set up! All your hard work has really payed off. I don't know if I could sleep at night If I had such a beauty.... is there such thing as tank insurance?
  10. Interesting! And it makes sense - usually when I'm stressed I wish there were two of me! Any opinions on whether or not this is too many anemones to keep in a 65 gal? Current count is two GBTA's and one small RBTA.
  11. This is getting weirder.... I just found another GBTA stuck to the side my sump! With a plastic dosing fork stuck in his foot! (no idea how the fork ended up in the tank) This guy has been on a wild ride! Did the original nem get torn in half? Will they both survive? Did my clowns hire the cleaner shrimp as a hit man to get rid of the nem because they heard me calling them stupid because they wouldn't go near it !? The plot thickens.... Just found in sump Hard to see, but look in the middle. Found in the overflow.
  12. So I've had a GBTA for the last four months or so. Got back from vacation, and he was gone - just disappeared. I figured he got caught in a powerhead and dissolved over time. That was over three weeks ago .... and I found the dummy yesterday in my overflow behind some pipes (NO idea how he even got in there - the slats are tiny). I put him back in his spot and he stuck for awhile, then crawled halfway under a rock. He doesn't look good at all - discolored, puny, white on the tips of his tentacles. Is there anything I can do for him? My first inclination was to feed him alot, but I'm not sure. Do these guys bounce back easily, or are they pretty delicate? And on another note, I got a RBTA a few days ago. Will they co-exist peacefully?

    WTB: RBTA

You too Laura!! Thanks so much for your time and good advice. Not to mention the good deals Everything is doing great .... already starting to open up nicely. The porcelain crab is MIA - I think he's just laying low. Unfortunately the beautiful RBTA has taken up residence behind my rockwork! Hoping he's just playing shy and will decide to move up front soon.

Im looking for a healthy rose bubble-tip anemone - preferably a Sherman. Anyone have one? Located North, or willing to meet at RCA would be great.
  16. So my husband and I went on a trip to Kauaii last week. Did some great snorkelling, and I dove down to collect a few shells that I stashed in my board shorts pocket. Well, I was just unpacking, got the shells out of my pocket and looked at them closely.... and realized that there were eyes looking back at me! Some of the shells had crabs in them!! I couldn't believe it - I thought they were empty. I immediately dumped them in my tank, and they seem to be doing ok, which is pretty amazing considering the wild ride the poor guys have been on! Not to mention 3 days spent out of the water. I will definitely be taking a closer look next time I go picking up shells....
  17. Sorry to hear you're getting out of the hobby! In case you don't sell the setup as a whole, please put me down for the dragonfly colony, orange ric, hammer head and Mandarin.
  18. Does anyone out there have experience with these guys? I got one a few days ago and I feel like there is a bomb in my tank!! He hasn't moved much at all. Is this a bad sign? Has anyone had the dreaded "cuke nuke" happen to their tank?
  19. PM sent re Purple Deaths and frogspawn hybrid
  20. PM'd re: frogspawn (when tank was posted in other forum)
  21. I'm trying to figure out the best way to direct the flow in my tank. I'm working with one Koralia 4, one Koralia 3, and my return that pushes a good amount of water, in a 65 gal tank. I currently have a Koralia on each side of the the tank angled toward each other, and the return is coming out of a box in the rear LH corner. I'm having a hard time finding a good balance. Seems like either my sand gets shifted around alot, the surface becomes too agitated, or my polyps and other corals look like they're in a tornado! Any suggestions? Could I have too much flow going on?
