  1. I am going to build one in on my next house. I say go with as big a room as you can. Let me know if you want any help or info on the building process. I am a home builder and have a very good architect that I have worked very close with for several years.

  2. Thanks for all the help. My tank is still sitting with the pipe clamp on it and I am still deciding the best way to take care this. I think I just need to remove about half of my water and clean and replace. After I get the brace back in I can put most of the water back in and get my closed loop running for circulation.

  3. I put a clamp on the tank for the night. I will get some silicone in the morning and see if I can lower the water level enough to glue it back tomorrow. The problem is leaving the water level down for 24hrs for the silicone to cure.

  4. I was cooking dinner and my wife tells me there is something wrong with the tank. The center brace fell into the tank. It really only hurt my pink echinata. I can see small bow to the front piece of glass. I am scared of the sides coming apart. The tank is oceanic and is made of 5/8"glass. Any thoughts on how to repair this with out completely draining the tank?

  5. Do you think the spectrum will effect the any of the photosynthetic properties gained from the true actinic or is the spectrum close enough? my purple's and some blues don't look as bright as I would like, even some reds are faded looking.

  6. I am getting close to needing to change my actinics. I don't like the colors I am getting from my super actinics and was wanting to get some opinions on the 454nm bulbs from UVL. I have 2x 250w XM 15k MH and 2x 110w VHO's. I like the growth that I am getting just want better color from my sps.

  7. Looks like it could be cyanobacteria, but it seems like a strange location for it. Are there any other places that it is located? and don't worry about asking questions everyone here need info sometimes.

  8. do you have any drawings or plans from your canopy build. I need to build one for mine and $50.00 sounds like a great price to pay.

Also, does anyone have suggestions on what type of wood would be good to use. Not only for the canopy but for dressing up the stand as well. i have the basic fram for the stand but just need to dress the outside of it.

Most of the stands that you can buy are either pine or oak. I used hickory on mine to match the cabinets in my house. If I was to build another one I think I would go with alder or cherry. I built all of my kids furniture out of cherry and love the way it dakens over time. Alder has a similar grain and you can get it in knotty or clear.

  9. A nine volt battery will turn the fans if they are good. Just touch each wire to a terminal on the battery. You might have to clip the wires, but you would prbably have to do that to replace the transformer anyway.

  10. Why would it be a big mistake?? Just wondering what the major difference is.. I mean I know you dont want to use the sand on land or what is in the shallow area....

Chemicals, Oil, diesel and I don't think the sand is aragonite based.

  11. To those that have cought some shrimp.........can you bring sand and rock from the ocean as well?

Or is this frowned apon? Someone said they cought some anomines

Live sand that is sold is from a mile or so off shore. You would be making a mistake using sand off the Texas coast.
