  1. hmm.. that is disappointing. not that horrible, but i was hoping i could keep a shrimp in there to help keep the aptasia in check. i dont think putting a chiller/heater and a regulator on a 3 gallon nano is viable for me. i guess i will have to start eraticating the aptasia with boiling water injections or some such. thanks for all the replies guys.

  2. hmm..well, i have the tank located in an area that never receives sunlight. i dont regularly check the temperature. (is this something i should be doing? ) i keep my home at about 78 degrees all the time. there might be a few degrees difference when im not home and the ac is not on. do you think that might be it? a fluxuation in temperature? there is no heater or chiller on the tank. dontknow.gif

  3. before i put him in the tank. i kept him in the original bag and added my tank water into the bag over a period of about an hour. i dont have an IV drip system, so i was just spooning water into it every few minutes.

  4. hey there. i'm pretty new to saltwater invertebrates. i recently purchased a peppermint shrimp from RCA. well, after a day in my tank it started acting very odd. it was lying on his side flapping the legs on his abdomen. i left him alone and figured he was acclimating or some such. he only lasted a day or two more laying on the floor before i found a blue leg hermit feeding on him. any ideas as to what it was doing? was it sick? was it lack of hiding places because it was trying to molt? i had it in a 3gal nano. was that waaay to small?

    specific gravity : 1.025?ph: 8.1 ?ammonia: 0?nitrite: 0?nitrate: < 1 ppm?phosphate < 1 ppm?

i dont dose with anything, as i dont have much in the tank at the moment.

  5. Take a look at Randy's cichlid tank at RCA.  It is a 150g (give or take) and has over a thousand watts of lighting (or says he) but you can barely see anything in the tank.

if RCA is river city aquatics, and you are talking about his Frontosa tank, then his low lighting is completely ideal for that species. They are a deep water fish and the low light is environmentally accurate for that fish. i think he made it that way on purpose. i love that tank.

edit: maybe if i had read the rest of the thread before posting i would see randy's reply :)

  6. hehe...what can i say? i'm infected. i've definitely got the disease. i'm just starting out in the wonderful world of Saltwater aquariums. i have a small 5 gallon nano set up that has been running for 4 months now. it has low flow and low light so all i can really support in there are shrooms and other softies i suppose. since i'm still new to the obsession i've not really invested a lot of money into it yet. i've been going around to the lfs and picking up floating frags of shrooms and zoos. everyone has been really nice about introducing me to the hobby. i'm a patient individual so all i really want is a polyp of something. then i'll tie it down and let it grow.

so, what i'm asking for is, if anyone has a single polyp frag of a shroom or zoo , can i have it? :D so far i have some blue/green rics, red button polyp zoos, and some green star polyps. any and every color is welcome.

i wish i had frags to trade, but i think that is gonna be quite a few months down the road. maybe i can dish out a few bucks or trade my services as a digital illustrator.

    thanks.
