i just got back from there. i picked up a nice pink blasto. there was an acan lord that looked pretty nice. kinda silver/reddish looking.

well, sorry for not posting the pics. my camera is not functioning properly. it is pink pulsating xenia. it looks just like GKarshens' xenia. i looked, and only have 4 stalks to get rid of. the stalks are about 4"-6" in length and about 1"-1.5" in diameter. how bout $10 a stalk?

if you can scrape up another handful, i would love to have some. by the way. that purple digi i got from ya is doing great!

ok. just a short update on the frag.

so, the broken carapace has not healed up. it is still pretty much broken. the tentacles on the broken side do not extende ever. the tentacles on the opposite side do extend in the mornings but close up a bit in the evenings. not completely closed up, but not all the way out.

on the bright side, it is eating. i have successfully fed it mysis /cyclopeze/rotifers and what not. also, it seems that the broken head has stimulated growth for a new head. there is a new head forming on the non broken side at an alarming rate. i'll try and get some pics of it tonite. the new little head already has a mouth and the startings of tentacles. i can see the mouth open during feeding and suck up cyclopeze. this is very encouraging. although im a little annoyed that i was originally sent a sub-par frag, i'm glad that it did not die and seems to be recovering nicely.

heys. i have some xenia to off load. that stuff grows like crazy. i have some pinkish/silver xenia. i prolly have around 5 or so stalks i can spare. i'll get some pictures tonite and upload 'em. 3 stalks are mounted to rubble/ dead cap , and 2 i will have to frag.

well, you can do it the old fashion way. boil water in a pot and dump it into a bucket or tub. you should be able to boil 4 pots at a time. there ya go!

so, i called the guy i got the frag from. i emailed pics of the injury. he stated that duncans are very hardy corals and feels confident that it will heal up. he suggested placing in in the sand bed, or on a flat rock to let it heal up. he also said that if it died, or did not make it, he would replace it or refund my monies. so that is super cool. right now i have it sitting on the sand bed and this morning when i left for work, i could see that it was starting to polyp out. it was not fully extended, but i could tell it was making an effort. i'm keeping my fingers crossed, because i really want it to make it.

i posted over at reefcentral, and some guys who have duncans seem to think that gluing it to a frag plug with some gel is the best bet.

i'm also worried that it might not survive though. here is a pick of what i received.

so, i got this duncan frag off the internet. but it is not mounted and has been freshly cut off the mother colony. how do i mount this ? i'm not familiar with this coral at all and i'm totally unsure of how i should go about adhereing it to some live rock.

right now i have it wedged into a piece of rubble, but i'd like something more permanent so those stupid snails and crabs don't knock it off.

so , from what i've seen of frags of duncanopsammia axifuga ( whisker coral ) they have a hard tube like structure they grow through. kinda like a dendro or tubastrea. well, my frag doesn't have that tube structure. i think it was lopped off one of those structures. it was probably growing out the side of one, and whoever fragged it, dremel'd it off.

so, right now i have a fleshy disk of poly that is slimed over. any ideas?

i was thinking of keeping it in a really low flow area and trying to get it mounted much like you would a mushroom or something. with some lace or a panty hose or something? maybe even putting it in a cup to keep the snails away?

any ideas would be appreciated.

i have a male leopard wrasse i'd like to find another home for. he is getting too big for my 20 gallon, so it is time to find a bigger home. he eats frozen foods like mysis shrimp. he is an early to rise, early to bed fish. he always goes to sleep around 7:30pm. so, i dont really get to see him much since i work a late shift. i've had him for about 4 months and is around 3.5" - 4" long.

i'll try and get a pic of him, but he will probably be asleep by the time i get off work today. I'd like to re-home him this weekend if possible. ( so prolly no pics till tomorrow morning when he is awake )

he's very active, eats frozen mysis. really nice colors.

i have a 20L and currently using 150w MH. i am satisfied with what it can do, but i'm only borrowing the lighting for the time being. i plan on switching to some T5s as soon as i find a good deal on a set of 4x24.

i have a 3 gal pico with rics , anthelia, gsp, xenia , and a pair of sexy shrimp.

i also have a 20gallon long with my fu manchu lionfish. i have some montipora caps and some digitata in there as well.

i think 4 weeks is reasonable

heya! i'm putting together a 20L and i'm not familiar with small fish that will be able to populate the tank and not be hindered by tank size. i would appreciate any suggestions. i'm ok with aggressive fish, but prefer reef safe. i plan on having softies in the tank, no sps/lps.

i'm trying to get a 20L set up . so far i have the drilled 20L, a 10gallon sump, a Red Sea Berlin skimmer rated up to a 250gal tank:) , a Rio 3100 UL pump to run the skimmer, and a Rio 2500 UL for the return. I've not decided on the lights yet, so some input would be nice. i plan on keeping rics and zoos, and maybe some softies. no sps. Also, how important is a refugium? will i even need one with that big skimmer? i plan on having at least 2-3" of sand to help filtrate.

if it turns out that i need a refugium, i think i will build one out of acrylic. thanks to Brian for the demo at the last meeting, i feel confident in putting one together. i might build one, just because

i'm trying to set up a 20gal long. i am in need of a pump for the skimmer and the return. if anyone has any used pumps, i would be very interested.

if you're gonna part it out. i would love about 20lbs of rock.
