Hi Mark,
The 180 is on semi permenant hold which has putting holes in the wall on hold.
-
$75 from me. Should bump to free shipping.
-
I'd recommend considerably overestimating the support you’ll need. Moving something with dead weight on it is different than moving something with fluids.
-
Love the wire coral.

Happy birthday Chad!

I tend to keep in the 4-5x range myself. ReefCentral has a head flow calulator for many of the available pumps. You can use the calculator and plug in your pipe size and configuration to get a pretty good idea of your flow and a given head height.
-
There’s lots of good advice above. Best thing to do is start with the root cause. You have cyano and hair algae. This means regardless of any circulation issues you have too many nutrients in the water.
Long term the best starting place is to address the nutrient issue. (BTW besides NTS, overfeeding is the single most common issue in aquariums of all varieties.)
Now along will addressing how the nutrient’s get into your water there are also methods for removing them. This would be where protein skimmers and water changes come into the equation.

Sorry read the title and my first thought was "Hmm they always tasted a bit funny to me."

Lots of people run very nice reefs in 55s and smaller. Lots of people also run them in non-reef ready tanks. 55s a good size to get your feet wet.

Hi Marco and welcome. If you need help feel free to post your question.

I use the same pump I feed the chiller with. Or, any old pump will do.
-
Or rather when she beats him into submission....

Agreed, maintenance with vinegar. I pull and clean out mine about twice a year. My crud in the hose issue got a lot better when I shielded the hose (clear vinyl) from the lights. (algae was growing on the inside of the hose)

First question, other than being loud is it still working ok? Is the water level as indicated by the mark on the side?
It may just need to be cleaned.

Nice rose nem and love the mini maxi in the background.
And of course nice clowns:)

Ok, my experience:
Tunze: I’ve used the following / results
9002 Have 3, they work great very quiet and efficient
9210 works well but positioning is an issue
9410 quiet and efficient, my favorite!
Coralife 64
POS, until I got an ATO, dialed in worked pretty well but quite noisy
AquaC Remora Pro
medium quiet and efficient but took much longer to dial in than the tunzes

Great advice from muddybluewater and vwmike. I'd add start simple and organize and prioritize the purchases that you really need to get started.
-
yup, bad choice for anything but a predator or single species tank
-
I'm sorry to hear about the issue you had. I've delt with Aquarium Specialty several times without issue.
-
Most likely the pump and airline just need to be disassembled and given a thorough cleaning with a mixture of water and vinegar. Salt and other debris builds up and partially blocks airlines and decreases effeciency of impellers.
-
I am (less than reliably) using the polyp labs stuff and feeding the fish with diced mysis and the blue zoo flake mix.
I've been thinking of setting up a 10g with a rock pile and cheato specifically to try to colonize.
-
baster into a small cup, acclimate then use the baster to shoot (gently) into either cheato or live rock.
I should note that neither the gobies nor the clown show any interest in them.
-
I had the same issue in my tanks until I setup my 7.5 pico. Now every 2 weeks or so I export pods to my larger tanks. Sadly none of the larger tanks show any signs of growing colonies.
7.5 details:
1 clown
2 neon gobys
3 sexy shrimp
4 macromussa colonies
zoas
mushrooms
1 mini carpet nem
1 aquaclear 50 with 1 mangrove and a clump of cheato
-
This is not common at all. The first thing I would do is confirm your peppermint shrimp is actually a pepperment and not a camel shrimp. Camel shrimp are not entirely reef safe and are sometimes mistaken for peppermints.
