    Spiny urchins!

Do you have a GBTA? If not would you consider a trade?
  2. I had the same problem with my current 90 gallon tank. Mine use to be at 690 but it has since came down. Just because it's that high doesn't mean it will start to percipitate. It takes more then just the calcium being high for it to precipitate. Look at this link to when I had posted about my calcium being high. Members helped me out and my tank is doing fine. http://www.austinreefclub.com/topic/17271-calcium-question/
  3. Same for me. I have 8 T5 HO on my 90 gallon and I keep the room temp at 73 or 74 and the tank temp is at 78 or 79. i also have 4 circulation fans in the tank as well.
  4. Hair algae is gone!!!!!!!

  5. Hair alage is gone!!!!!!

  6. Well I don't want to be the one here who tries it. I do water changes and will be doing one this weekend. Just wondering. Thanks for the input.
  7. If all water parameters are good, does there need to be a water change done? I know some people do one every week but what if everything is fine? Whats the other benefits of doing a water change if all parameters are good?
  8. Ok after many attempts to rid the tank of what I thought was GHA I Joe believe it's bryopsis. What should I do? I know everyone is saying to raise the Mg but what will it kill in my tank? I have all soft corals, 2 green BTA's, a star fish and the fish I stated in a prior post.
  9. Here are some water test results from today. Ca= 620ppm KH= 107.4ppm PO= 0ppm Nitrate= 0ppm Ammonia= 0ppm Mg= 1400ppm Ph= 8.2 Salinity= 1.024
  10. It's not bryopsis. It's GHA. I looked it up and mine looks nothing like this
  11. I use a filter soak but I change them out about every 3 to 4 days. Thanks for the advice every. Hopefully things start to look better within the next couple of weeks. Also, the hair algae that's on the sand is more of a brownish color. Is this GHA?
  12. I will cut back on the lights when I get home. As for feeding, I only feed once a day and add the food slowly as to not have extra in the tank floating around. I have not changed the filters yet in the RO system as they are only about 4 months old. I am going to replace the DI resin this weekend since it just started to show 001 TDS. I don't feed corals either. I'm going to try the 3 days of darkness this week and then do a water change this weekend. Hopefully it helps. Question: Do I leave the skimmer running during the 3 days of darkness? And do I cover up the tank with a sheet?
  13. I'm feeding a pellet food called spectrum marine formula as well as frozen Mysis shrimp which I rinse in RO water. As for tue water source, I have my own RO DI until and mix my own water. The tank has been set up sine April and yes I moved it from San Antonio. I bought the 90 gallon off a lady over there. Im useing a reef octopus skimmer that I bought this past weekend so I'm still waiting for it to fully break in. It's already pulling out junk but I'm hoping to does more once it breaks in. Will getting a sand shifting goby help with the hair algae on the sand?
  14. Well I have a lawnmower blenny and 4 turbo snails along with about 15 nassarius snails. I also have about 7 hermits.
  15. So I recently started to have an algae outbreak in my 90 gallon tank. I have been running GFO and carbon for about 2 weeks and nothing changed. So I went out and bought new T5 lights and a new skimmer. I scrubbed the algae off the rocks and cleaned the sand bed of the hair algae. Now after 4 days of running the new lights and new skimmer, I am still getting hair algae growing on rocks and the sand bed. I tested my water and had the pet store test it and everything was good even phosphates. I don't know what else to do. I thank my calcium is still high. Could this be causing alage growth? Any suggestions would be helpful as I don't want the tank to be victim of hair algae take over nor do I have the money to start over.
  16. Hey everyone, I got me a new skimmer this past weekend so I dont need my old one anymore. Im looking to trade it for some leather corals, zoas, etc and also some mangroves and other type of macro alage that I can add to my refugium. Let me know if you are interested. Here are a couple of pictures of the skimmer. Thanks.
  17. Hi everyone. I'm going to be buying new bulbs for my T5 fixture this week from BRS and was wanting some suggestions from those of you who run T5's regarding bulb type and combinations. It's a 7 bulb retro fit fixture. I'm currently running 2 aquablue 3 blue plus and 2 pinkish colored lights that I don't remember the name of. All bulbs are 54 watts. I'm also running a T12 super actinic light. I also bought 2 LED stunner strips for moon lighting I'm going to be adding soon. I'm not sure if I want to go with the same combination of lighting or something different. What do you guys suggest? I'm wanting to keep soft, LPS and SPS corals.
  18. My brother wanted me to ask you guys the question of how to dry live rock so that he can use it when he gets ready to set up his tank later down the road. He is getting a tank from another person today and it has live rock and everything. He doesnt have his tank set up yet and wants to save dry the rock out to use at a later time. How does he do this? Does he just leave it out in the sun then before he gets ready to use it boil it? Or does he boil it first then dry it out in the sun?
  19. Is it necessary to have LED lighting for night time use? I got my lights put together today. It's a t5 retro kit. It takes up all of the room in the canopy so I don't have any room for the LED lighting. I didn't know if it would hurt not to have any. What do you guys think?
  20. Cool I'll go just below the water line. Thanks.
  21. Thanks everyone. I'll drill it today about an inch below the water line.
  22. How do I keep the water from being sucked back into the refugium via the return line if the pump fails or the power goes out? I've read about drilling a hole on the top of the return line so that it breaks the sucken but will the water shoot out of there when the pump is on? Also I have a valve (not sure the name) that only allows the water to flow one way through it. Would this be a good thing to install?
  23. Is kilz a paint or varnish?
