  1. I saw that rock build but I was thinking more on the lines of this YouTube video. I wasn't sure how good this type of homemade rock was for your tank. http://m.youtube.com/index?desktop_uri=%2F&gl=US#/watch?xl=xl_blazer&v=zFPebEdEoMA
  2. So once I move into my new house, I will be getting my 29 gallon tank back from my brother. I have treated some of the corals for flat worms before but never the whole tank. I figured this would be the best time to do this. I know to dip all corals before putting them in my tank but i didnt do this before. I was going to do this during the move before adding the corals back into the tank. What should I do regarding the rock? Should I dip them also? If not, what is good to add to the tank that won't hurt the fish and corals? Thanks for your time
  3. Not trying to take anything away from the other post regarding making your own live rock but had some questions. This might seem stupid but how many people on here make their own rock? It seems kind of easy and cheaper then buying all reef dead or live rock. I'm going to be setting up my 120 gallon soon (I hope) and would consider doing this. Maybe a 50/50 of real rock and home made rock like this. I haven't seen anyones tank that make their own rock. How many of you make your own rock and how has it worked out for you. Also, would you considered sharing some pictures of you tank showing the homemade rock. Thanks for reading and happy reefing.
  4. Heres what I did with my wet/dry filter system with the help from Epic Reef .
  5. what kind of snake do you have?
  6. Don't remember the name. I'll have to look it up and let you know What kind of star fish are those on your picture?
  7. So I had put this tank up for sell awhile back but decided to keep it because I was going to use it again. However, I now want to get a turtle and need a reptile tank to house it in. I need at least a 40 to 50 gallon reptile tank. I would also like to have a screen top for it and a light if you have one. Any extras would be a plus. I have the follolwing discription of whats included with the trade. I dont have a light for it as I gave it to my friend for his tank. Whats included: 29 gallon bow front tank nice 2 tone stand 2 hang on back filters rated each for a 20 to 40 gallon tank heater Here are a couple pictures of the set up.
  8. how about $100.00. Im going out of town for training with the new job and could use the money to pay for gas.
  9. I have a 29 gallon bow front tank with stand that I am looking to sell. It my fresh water tank at work. I am moving jobs and cant take it to the new place with me and can have it at the house per the home owner. My friend is taking the fish for his tank at work so i will empty out all of the water and rocks. Whats included: 29 gallon bow front tank nice 2 tone stand 2 hang on back filters rated each for a 20 to 40 gallon tank heater light (i may sell the light with it if my friend doesnt want it) - has Im looking to get $150.00 for everything. Here are a couple pictures of the set up.
  10. I was told by a fellow reefer that I should try dosing it so I gave it a try. Again I know, it was stupid on my part for just following the crowd and I should have done some research but the local fish store told me the same thing (not disclosing the store name). I called my brother this morning and told him to stop the dosing and he said ok. I will have him do a water change also. Do you think this is whats cauing the brian coral to die?
  11. Im going thave to test the iodine levels before I can say. I have been dosing iodine (the consentrated one). I had my brother put it in there about once a week. You know, He has been doing more frequent water changes then I use to and I read online that iodine gets replaced with regular water changes so maybe adding the drops on top of the more frequent water changes is causeing the levels to be to high. How do I bring down the iodine level if it is to high?
  12. thanks. I had my brother change out the MH light. He stated that the tank looks a lot britter now so hopefully it will recover if it was do to the light being old.
  13. hes feeding the same as i did. about half a mysis cube every other day.
  14. i think i need to change out the light which im going to have him do today. As for the feeding ill check with him but I told him to keep it the same. mysis shrimp every other day. I never spot fed the brain coral becuase the clowns were to quick to get the food. Ive had it for around 8 months with no problems.
  15. ill have to ask my brother but the only thing that gets around it are the 2 clown fish. As for the temp, its setting at 80. I would like for it to be lower but there is already a fan that blows on the water and an AC unit in the room on all of the time.
  16. I have a 29 gallon Biocube with 150W 14K MH lights along with a refugium. I went to my brothers place yesterday and was checking up on my tank that he is watching for me. It looked great except for me Open Brain Coral is dying. He showed me a spot on the coral where the skeleton was exposed. We tested the water and the results follow: KH (179ppm) - is this to high? If so how do I get it to come down? Ca (460ppm) PH (8.2) Nitrate (0) I had been dosing Strontium, Magnesium but he had forgot about it. I added some to the tank yesterday. I noticed that it wasnt open as much as it use to be. There is not anything next to it that would be stinging it. The following is a pic that was taken after the lights went out. Ill try to get another one today when the lights are on. You can see at the bottom where the coral is dying.
