  1. If the product ships immediately, then it shouldn't if all 10 people didn't place an order by the cutoff. In my opinion, if they ship my order immediately then it will be billed immediately and it best get the bulk price.

I bet they make sure all individuals has registered with them prior to opening it up, but I still don't see how they can regulate all those individuals placing orders if they ship product immediately after an individual places an order.

  2. Buda is the home of Cabelas! It is south of Austin and north of Kyle / San Marcos.

Yes it should be perfect for that glass thickness.

Where the heck is Buda? I think this would be perfect for my fuge/frag tank Im planning. The glass is only like 5/16''.

  3. Yep, you got it, will have the same problems as I did because of the thick glass. When I tried it in my tank, it held around 6 plugs but anymore than that on the 3/4" glass it was becoming unstable and I didn't want to risk it losing grip.

sorry just went an measured my glas an its 3/4 so probably wont work. was very intrested but probably have same problem

  4. As the title states, Eshopps Frag Rack, straight rack (12" x 4") that holds 23 plugs. It is basically brand new in box. I used it once only to find out the glass on my 180 gallon is much thicker than it is rated.

Asking $15 or will trade for ORA Pink Birdsnest.

  5. Well it is about time for an update. After an all out battle with GHA, I can say I finally won the war! I'm now in the final stages of battling some cyano. After checking some parameters, it was noted that my KH was low, so I'm working on raising that and each day the tank looks a bit better and cyano recedes some. We should know in a few weeks.

I have made some changes. I was lucky enough to get some cash due to a vacation payout so decided to make a big purchase and finish upgrading all my equipment. I ended up replacing all of my modded Maxi-Jets with Tunze! I purchased two 6105s and two 6055s (controllable nano streams) along with a 7096 controller. Besides one hiccup, I'm very impressed with these pumps. Right away I could see a difference with polyp extension from my SPS. The LPS on the other hand were a bid blown away! The only problem I had was with programming the 7096, it took many attempts (this was very frustrating) to get my computer to recognize the controller, but once it found it, only took a few minutes to get it loaded and the pumps to engage the program.

On top of this, I also upgraded my skimmer. In the last blog update, you will see I picked up the Vertex IN280 Gen 2. I went with the largest one to keep up with my load as I plan to add some additional fish and also if I ever decide to venture into vodka dosing, it should easily keep up with that additional load.

Here is a full tank shot:

Here is a shot of the 58 gallon sump and the massive Vertex IN 280 skimmer. It was a tight squeeze, but it fits!

  6. I think I have the 180 (8") body and they are beasts of skimmers. IMO, it pulls out just as much junk as my Euro-Reefs so I'm not so sold on the "bubble plate" marketing, but it is a lot quieter than my EuroReef.

Yes I have noticed that the Vertex is very quiet compared to the Euro-Reef. I like that feature! I'm still letting it break in but it seems to be pulling out the same / more than the Euro-Reef, but I've only had one cupful thus far. Time will tell. The water looks a bit clearer!

  7. I'd really like to trade for corals, but I'd say $80 is fair for the skimmer. It is rated for 135 gallons (I was using it on a 180 with no problems) and the second pump I purchased alone was $99. The pump is only a few months old plus it has an additional pump body for backup.

  8. Well I have had my new skimmer running for about a week now. It is a VERTEX IN 280 skimmer. It is the biggest one that is offered with this line. I was originally planning on getting the Vertex Alpha Cone 200, but during the order process I found out they were back ordered for a few weeks plus I was hearing some mixed reviews. I ended up going with the IN (also $300 less than the Cone) and was aware of the dimensions, but it is much different in person. I was shocked at how big the skimmer was. The body is 10" diameter and I had a bit of trouble fitting it into my 58 gallon sump. After some wiggling and wrestling it fit and got it running.

This is replacing my Euro-Reef CS 8-1 that had been running on my aquarium since setup with no issues. I decided to upgrade since my stocking of the tank had been growing.

No shots yet of the skimmer running, but just finished cleaning out the cup today. I will let it completely break in for another week. So far so good. My wife was already complaining about the smell during the collection cup cleaning (more than before!).

For amusement, I do have some new out of box pictures with a 12oz coke can for reference.

  9. In my opinion, websites are nice BUT if they aren't updated frequently they aren't effective.

Since I live in Buda, it is a drive to venture out and visit any LFS's. As a customer and frequent visitor to some stores, I would like a website that provides updates on shipments and ideally to have daily snapshot of what is available. I find that majority of the time I take the effort to drive the distance, either the available livestock is limited or doesn't meet my requirements.

My .02 cents for what its worth.

  10. Ok, it looks like the weld on worked and is holding. I water tested the collection cup this evening for about an hour and it didn't leak.

I went ahead and took another picture of the entire skimmer. It includes a complete Euro-Reef CS 8-1 skimmer with Sedra 5000 pump. The collection cup was repaired and is intact. It also comes with another Sedra 5000 pump body and impeller. The skimmer works and was used on my 180 gallon but during a cleaning, I accidentally dropped the collection cup. Luckily I already had my new skimmer on the way so ended up just setting it up. It is an 8" body diameter and just over 20" tall.

I'm looking to trade for birdnest (pink and green) mini colony and any colorful zoo / ricordia corals. Please let me know if anyone has any resonable offers for trade.

  11. I basically built a small chest that is next to my stand out of oak and used stain that matches the stand. I just put a rubbermaid container in it. Check out my album / pictures on ARC.

  12. I responded to the PMs and majority of everyone was interested in the condition / ablility to fix the collection cup. Since I had some time last night, I decided to use some left over weldon from a previous project. From the quick look this morning when I was walking out to head to work, it looks like it was successful. I will let it completely cure and check the strength / hold water on Thursday.

It looks like it should hold so overall the skimmer will be intact and ready to function for the next user. Again, just interested in a trade for a few different corals. I'm specifically looking for pink and green birdsnest and ricordia / zoos that are colorful.
