  1. I'd really like to trade for corals, but I'd say $80 is fair for the skimmer. It is rated for 135 gallons (I was using it on a 180 with no problems) and the second pump I purchased alone was $99. The pump is only a few months old plus it has an additional pump body for backup.
  2. Well I have had my new skimmer running for about a week now. It is a VERTEX IN 280 skimmer. It is the biggest one that is offered with this line. I was originally planning on getting the Vertex Alpha Cone 200, but during the order process I found out they were back ordered for a few weeks plus I was hearing some mixed reviews. I ended up going with the IN (also $300 less than the Cone) and was aware of the dimensions, but it is much different in person. I was shocked at how big the skimmer was. The body is 10" diameter and I had a bit of trouble fitting it into my 58 gallon sump. After some wiggling and wrestling it fit and got it running. This is replacing my Euro-Reef CS 8-1 that had been running on my aquarium since setup with no issues. I decided to upgrade since my stocking of the tank had been growing. No shots yet of the skimmer running, but just finished cleaning out the cup today. I will let it completely break in for another week. So far so good. My wife was already complaining about the smell during the collection cup cleaning (more than before!). For amusement, I do have some new out of box pictures with a 12oz coke can for reference.
  3. In my opinion, websites are nice BUT if they aren't updated frequently they aren't effective. Since I live in Buda, it is a drive to venture out and visit any LFS's. As a customer and frequent visitor to some stores, I would like a website that provides updates on shipments and ideally to have daily snapshot of what is available. I find that majority of the time I take the effort to drive the distance, either the available livestock is limited or doesn't meet my requirements. My .02 cents for what its worth.
  4. Ok, it looks like the weld on worked and is holding. I water tested the collection cup this evening for about an hour and it didn't leak. I went ahead and took another picture of the entire skimmer. It includes a complete Euro-Reef CS 8-1 skimmer with Sedra 5000 pump. The collection cup was repaired and is intact. It also comes with another Sedra 5000 pump body and impeller. The skimmer works and was used on my 180 gallon but during a cleaning, I accidentally dropped the collection cup. Luckily I already had my new skimmer on the way so ended up just setting it up. It is an 8" body diameter and just over 20" tall. I'm looking to trade for birdnest (pink and green) mini colony and any colorful zoo / ricordia corals. Please let me know if anyone has any resonable offers for trade.
  5. I basically built a small chest that is next to my stand out of oak and used stain that matches the stand. I just put a rubbermaid container in it. Check out my album / pictures on ARC.
  6. I responded to the PMs and majority of everyone was interested in the condition / ablility to fix the collection cup. Since I had some time last night, I decided to use some left over weldon from a previous project. From the quick look this morning when I was walking out to head to work, it looks like it was successful. I will let it completely cure and check the strength / hold water on Thursday. It looks like it should hold so overall the skimmer will be intact and ready to function for the next user. Again, just interested in a trade for a few different corals. I'm specifically looking for pink and green birdsnest and ricordia / zoos that are colorful.
  7. So zero interest in trading so this will be free. On Wednesday it will go to the dumpster.
  8. I have a Euro-Reef CS 8-1 skimmer BUT it is missing the collection cup. During a cleaning it took a tumble and broke. I still have the broken collection cup if someone wants to repair it but if not, you can always buy a new replacement from Euro-Reef. It also has two Sedra 5000 pumps (one whole and another pump body / needlewheel with it just missing the venturi). I'm looking to trade it for some coral. I'm interested in green and pink birdsnest and other fast growing SPS. Also interested in any zoo colonies that are colorful.

  10. I keep my Brute in the garage under my RO/DI. I mix the saltwater in the garage thus my issues with increased temperatures due to my closed garage. I use a Mag 9.5 for mixing and then for the water change attach 35ft of flexible tubing to the pump and fill up that way. My water change consists of 45 gallons and once it is at the right temperature / salinity it takes about 15 minutes total to drain the sump / tank and then replace with the new water using the Mag 9.5. It took a few times to get an accurate reading of how much water I'm removing since I just drain it into my yard, but once that was established, it is a quick 15 minutes. Before I used to do the same thing with putting a bucket next to the tank. In my case I had two 15 gallon buckets but I would have to lug 5 gallon buckets of RO / DI water to fill them up. My wife was never happy with two buckets sitting in the house, especially with a toddler dipping his hands into it! The process is much more manageable now with the RO/DI in the garage / Brute underneath it. With the float valve and auto shutoff, I always have 45 gallons available to re fill my top off or begin water change process. It was smooth sailing until a month or so ago when the temperatures were getting into the upper 90's in which case implemented the frozen bottles to manage temperature of the water change water.
  11. I have the same trouble and this is my solution. It is similar to your bag idea but I kept having issues with pin holes or leaking from the seal. I now use juice or soda (2l) bottles that are more durable / heavy duty plastic and cap. I fill it up about 3/4 with water and then freeze it. I basically just pull them out, throw them into the mixing bucket (trashcan) the day I plan to do the water change. It brings the temperature down to where I can do a final check on salinity and then perform water change. By that time they're completely melted and just throw them back into the freezer for the next water change. You might try that.
  12. I didn't order hermits, but some of my livestock also didn't make it. I would send a separate email directly to John.
  13. Someone picked up the VHO bulbs and one Halide. I will also entertain offers for ZOOS or critters to keep sand bed stirred (Nassarius snails, conchs, serpent star, etc.) List updated below: Update to Items Available: One SE Reeflux 250 watt 12k bulbs (~six months of use) - $15 One SE Reeflux 250 watt 12k bulbs (~six months of use) - $15 Two 46.5" Super Actinic VHO bulbs (~10 months of use) - $free 4 Used Maxi Jet 900's (complete with all accessories that come with it new) - $10 each 1 New Maxi Jet 900 (in box) - $15 4 Algae Free Sure Flow 1600 Maxi-Jet Stream Upgrades - Includes both props - $10 each 4 Algae Free Sure Grip 100 Magnet Holders - $20 each JBJ Ocean Pulse - QUADRA Wavemaker (4 pump capacity) - includes original box / manual - $35 4 - Used Maxi-Jet 900's, 4 - SureFlow Stream Upgrades, 4 - Magnet Holders, and Wavemaker TOGETHER AS PACKAGE - $140

  17. I'm on my way to pick up my order. I should be stopping by in 20 minutes or so dependent on 35 traffic.
  18. Unable to confirm when the order will deliver exactly, but the method shipped was express with overnight delivery by noon. Our best guess right now is around noon tomorrow (Thursday).
  19. I just sent you a PM to straighten this out. Per my discussion with John, this would be shipping today using overnight method. Let's discuss further through email and get this resolved. I agree with you concerning the heat, we only continue to break records on a daily basis.
