    I hope this is true because I already ordered a custom made 5 gallon display and a 2.5 gallon sump. Please let me know if this is acceptable. I thought it was said, before this thread, up to 5 gallons with a sump no bigger than 1/2 of display. You are safe

    I can see both sides of this..the pro and against use of an existing controller...but I would lean toward saying no to controllers unless they are detected form the budget. And while yes you are just using it as a glorified timer, it is a super expensive timer, a cadlights aquarium is just a glass box...but it cost much more than a glass box... that is my take on it...controllers and ATO's are ok if they come out of the budget. Just get a cheap timer and donate it to goodwill after the contest

    timers = equipment, fixture = equipment, bulb = equipment...but if you got your tank cheap, the slush fund can go a long way

    I have had to do a ton of math as many of these tanks are marketed as x-gallons but math proves differently

    I was thinking more like a 2.5 gallon tank as a sump with a dedicated section the just held ATO water...which is easy to prove with cubic inch to gallon conversion. But I am not one to rock the boat...and I have a backup plan
