Someone (not me) in central Austin is selling a calcium reactor package for $300 on Craigslist if anyone's interested. I won't provide a link, but just do a search for "Calcium Reactor".

Just curious to know if anyone here has a DSA tank.
Would you recommend them for 200+ gallon tanks?
Anyone have any experience with ordering a custom tank from them?

call me cause i want to see what happens.
Guess I'd better match wattages. I'd like to avoid what's happening in your avatar.

Will a 400W electronic ballast accomodate any 250W bulb, or does it need a 400W bulb?
Is it better to have more powerful ballasts so as to have the option of using either 250W or 400W bulbs?

I have an ASM G3 and love it. Pulls out lots of skimmate, easy to clean, and most importantly, never needs adjusting after initial setup.
I think I paid over $300 from an online dealer.

I've heard that by gently scrubbing existing coralline with a toothbrush (a clean one, naturally) inside the tank, you will agitate/stress the algae and make it sporulate, making it spread.
Any truth to this?

Last time I was at Gallery of Pets (over a year ago), they seemed to be getting out of the Saltwater critters.
No, Gallery of Pets is still well-stocked with SW livestock. Thanks for the other tip.

Besides RCA, Aquatek, Aquadome, and Gallery of Pets, are there any other LFS in the Austin area that sell live corals?

Still available?

I might go back again this afternoon!

I feel my sandbed is too shallow and I want to add more sand to my established tank (about another 1-2 inches).
Do you think there would be any adverse effects if I put new sand on top of the existing sand? I would do it slowly and in sections (I'm talking about 1/6th of the tank every month).

You wouldn't happen to have any dottybacks or pseudochromis in the tank, would you? That would be a lethal combination (for the firefish).

Curious to know what kind of marine life people here keep in their refugium. I'm especially interested in the preferred types of macro-algae....thinking of going with Chaeto.
Also, any popular refugium creatures/items you would advise against?

I dosed Bi-ionic and mg also for a couple years, but now think of it, i should have gone straight to the reactor from day one. Save time, $$ and tank is much healthier (I think 75gal is not a small tank, so CA reactor is highly recommend)
Thanks for your response.
In your opinion, would a 75g with proper lighting, a good protein skimmer, a calcium reactor (w/mg rock), and proper water changes not require ANY additives/supplements?

Thanks, Robb! Your suggestions are duly noted.

Hello:
Just getting started on my 75 galllon reef (still curing live rock). Looking forward, I was hoping to get everyone's advice on the best additive/supplement product line?
Thanks in advance for your participation.

Just upgraded my light fixture to the Current USA Outer Orbit 2X250W HQI with T5s. Oh baby, what a difference!!! Love the shimmer effect.
In the words of Ferris Bueller, "It's so choice. If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up."
Looking forward to adding more SPS and clams to my tank!
