You guys have the Actinic, not the 50/50, correct?
-
Cool. Thanks,Ty!

Anybody have a picture or video of what this light fixture looks like without any other lights on?
YouTube wasn't helpful.
Looking to add some 'pop' and pondering this fixture vs actinic T5s.

I thought I'd share an interesting experience I've had with pods and newly-glued SPS frags.
With the last couple of SPS frag packs I've purchased, I've had a lot of death within 24 hours. I chalked the 1st time it happened up to different tank parameters. With the 2nd pack, I lost 6 out of 10 overnight, with the remaining 4 on life support. Water testing showed no issues.
Then, I remembered something I had observed previously. Whenever I glue new frags, the pods (big amphipods) are all over them after lights-out. Could they be attracted to the glue and, as a result, stressing the frags?
I tested this theory last night, after I received another SPS pack. I put 8 newly-glued frags up high on a frag-rack instead of on the liverock. I also glued a couple of empty plugs to the rocks.
Result? After light-out, the empty plugs were swarming with pods and the frags were clear. This morning, all frags are alive and looking great.
Coincidence? Anecdotal evidence?
Perhaps I'm wrong, but I don't think so. -
Thanks!

Hi, everybody.
My 135g reef has been on the decline for several years. My wife gave me an ultimatum in December: clean it up or shut it down. So, I started the clean-up just before Christmas and now I'm hooked once again.
The tank only contains two tangs, which I've always kept fed. The rocks were covered in hair algae. After about a week of cleaning and new aquascaping, the tank looked much better, so I tested at that point with Salifert kits. Phosphates were at 0.5 (can't imagine what they were prior to clean-up).
I decided to try NO3PO4-X and I have to say, I'm impressed. I haven't done any water changes since I started dosing over a week ago and phosphates are down to between 0.1 and 0.25 (Hannah checker is next on the order list). Algae is starting to peel itself off the back glass.
Dosing is very simple, so I'll probably continue a maintenance dosing regiment going forward.

Do you dose magnesium? It's the key to great polyp extension.

My 5g reservoir is a 5g water jug. When one empties, I replace it with a fresh jug, i.e., no pouring. Takes all of 10 seconds.

I've seen a 55g start to bow without that center brace, so you can be pretty sure your 72g is/will bow.

I don't know if this is still available....

They prefer low-flow to open fully. They also do fine under almost any kind of lighting.
-
Do you have a full-tank shot?

I was away for 17 days last year and I put my trust in my Apex controller and Eheim fish feeder. Came back and everything was fine, other than a thick build-up of algae on the glass.

It can't hurt to run some carbon through the canister, but it's not crucial. Just keep up with the maintenance.

You can hang them on the sump....same effect.
Do you have a protein skimmer? If not, try to use both filters.
Liverock would be a definite plus.

Dosing magnesium really helps with poly extension, especially the Digi's.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, same color (silver). You'll definitely be my go-to-guy when the time comes (I barely trust my son with my wife's minivan right now, haha).
I bought the car new in 2002 and had it serviced by the dealer every 5K miles. It only has 89K miles and the only mechanical work it's ever had done is when I recently had the alternator and battery replaced.....should be good for another 60K miles at least. He's been looking at used cars, but this car has been great to me and will serve him well.
BTW, do you know a good place for custom wheels/rims?
-
Reefs2go.com....they give you tons of copepods for a great price.

I'm thinking about giving my 2002 Lexus ES300 to my son sometime in the near future (he's still a relatively new driver).
Looking to make these upgrades:
- New partial or complete paint job
- Custom wheels
- Custom stereo/wiring (still has a cassette player), including modifying the dashboard/panel
Can anyone recommend a place in Austin that can do all of the above? If not, individual recommendations are also appreciated.
Thanks.

I have an SPS-dominated tank and I've never needed bone cutters. The pliers-type nail cutters work just fine.

Go to the women's nail section of your supermarket. You'll find basically the same stuff at 1/10 the price of the "reef" equipment.
Reef Safe AEFW treatment coming soon?
