guilt trip...!? I just knew your secret-secret email addy!

  2. Thought I would give an update. The wrasse never took to the black worms. I tried a few days per week with them. My other fish loved them, I however, was not too fond of the whole idea. After three weeks of eating pods and picking at rocks, she took her first frozen food today. In case anyone else is runs into a similar issue, I finally got her to eat a mix of Mysis, cyclopeeze and spirulina completely soaked in garlic extreme. I will warn anyone who has not used the garlic - your entire house will smell like it. It was well worth getting this beautiful girl to eat. Just another lesson in 'research before you buy.'
  3. Fusegoby or Cave Gobies - as long as you don't have any very small shrimp. Any of the Bristletooth tangs. (Kole-eye, two-spot, tomani) Leopard Wrasse, very challenging yet peaceful fish.
  4. No, I can't get you an iPad before it launches.

  5. Supervisor for Apple. Could be confused as babysitter, frat-house mom, or cat-herder depending on the day. Engineering is mostly in Cupertino.

    Hi There!

You are a brave man. or just insane.
  7. I picked it up today, but she is only out in the morning, so hopefully I can get her eating first thing tomorrow. I will pick up some black worms later in the week if she still isn't eating. I've heard they can't resist them.
  8. Mine came out first thing yesterday morning. Hopefully she will do well. I am waiting to see her eat.
  9. Well, I let her out in my tank. She swam around and explored a bit, then buried herself in he sand for the night. Fingers crossed, she comes out in the morning.
  10. I just started researching my evenings impulse buy, (yes, I know better) and I am having an 'Oh, Crap' moment. My pretty fish is difficult at best. So I am turning to my fellow reefers and hoping someone has advice for me. (Other than to quit impulse buying.) Has anyone kept a black leopard wrasse successfully? If so, what did you do special. Thanks!

I can frag mine if you would like some. It is pulsing xenia. Just let me know.
  13. Here is the answer I received from WWM. when you frag a coral, such as a Euphillia for example, you can see that the skeleton separates the polyps. That means each polyp must be fed. With some corals it is easy to see if this is the case, others not so. In fact it is a pretty safe bet that there are many corals that no-one knows exactly how these processes work, so if in doubt... feed the lot. (With Polyps it) depends if they are solitary or if they share a coenenchyme, a basal mat. This depends on the species. It is a pretty safe bet that nutrients are exchanged between polyps via the coenenchyme, so if this is how the coral spreads it must be a vector. Please read here http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2002-06/eb/index.php and here: http://www.reefs.org/library/aquarium_net/0198/0198_1.html. With a bit of sifting you might find some answers...
  14. In reading the book that Chris got me, I learned that SPS corals have a structural system that allows them to share nutrition between polyps. It also said some LPS have that same ability. So here is where I get confused. How do I know if my LPS is sharing nutrition, or if every polyp has to eat individually? My two LPS at the moment are branching frogspawn and candy cane. Also do palys and zoas share nutrition, or are they complete individuals. With corals, as with life - the more I learn, the less I know.
  15. Thanks for the hospitality and the beautiful frag. It is already looking great in my tank!
  16. I have 20-30 white legged hermits that I bought from reefcleaners. Turns out they are not only not reef-safe as advertised, they are not fish-safe. When I got up on Monday, they were eating a fish alive. I think, Ok, maybe it was really ill. On Tuesday when I got home, a second fish had been taken out. No signs of illness. First thought, test everything. A small ammonia spike from losing two fish in two days. Nitrate at 20PPM. Everything else, perfect. Wednesday I get up, a third fish is getting eaten alive. Remove all hermits from him, but realize his injuries are too severe to save him, so I euthanize with clove oil. Maybe an illness I can't see? So I stay up on Thursday with a flashlight. I see my fish in their usual night time places, close to the sand bed. I watch as some of the hermits go from the rocks, to dropping down on my sleeping clown. Long story short, these are getting removed from my tank. Free to anyone who has a use for them. Maybe a lionfish??? It would be a fitting end. I have no luck in this hobby. How do you backup a Murderous hermit gang?
  17. I had heard of mushrooms eating clowns, but they were always talking about single mushrooms that were 1 ft or larger in diameter. Most of the mushrooms in the trade, simply don't get that large. The species to be wary of is the elephant ear, which is a fish eater by nature, and will not hesitate to have your clown as breakfast.
  18. Yes and no. It is mine, but apparently it is up for debate if they are called powder browns or A. Nigricans are. Either way, that's my George, and I am calling him powder brown! He has finally settled in and claimed a cave as his territory. Now I am hoping he will attack hair algae with a vengeance.
  19. I officially asked my father to change his birthday so I can attend! I will be there, but I may be disowned.... Laura, you'll adopt me, right? I promise I won't take my room apart and leave it in the hallway!
  20. Where's my Aggie sweatshirt! I feel out numbered! I suppose I will have to root for UT, even if it borders on blasphemy! My mother did pay for my tuition even though she was a longhorn.
  21. Be careful with rattlesnakes. My cat lost his tail to one. He got bit, and was such a macho kitty that he didn't complain a bit, so we didn't see it right away. A few days later his tail lost it's fur and turned green. The vet had to amputate. It was really funny to watch him the first few weeks without his tail. He seemed drunk since he couldn't use his tail to balance! That's when he and his sister became house cats.
