  1. I know this is kindof a weird ? but....... So my job requires that my hands get covered in oil, to dirt, mud, grease and so on. So anytime I have to reach into my tank to clean it I have to be dang sure none of that stuff is on my hands. What would be the best way to clean the hands and so on? Right know I just wash them with dishsoap and rinse (forever) to make sure my hands are clean of any soap. How do some of you prep for putting your hands in the tank?
  2. So i noticed you have GHA and you mentioned that a tang would be good for removing that. I have the same GHA and i need it gone cause its making my hair come out trying to remove it I got a 29 gallon tank with 1 blue devil who kills anything his size or smaller, and one cleaner shrimp. What would be a good tang for that? I need help!
  3. I did think about using a metal frame with like 2" ridged pipe for support and then welding cross bracing ect... then have a wooden exterior that just used magnets to hold it in place, it would be easy to remove and would require the least amout of cutting and welding. that might be a thought.
  4. THAT IS A NICE LOOKING TANK. I DONT KNOW HOW YOU KEEP THAT SAND LOOKING SO CLEAN BUT WHAT EVER YOU ARE DOING ITS WORKING!
  5. Wow! Thats exactly what I need. I can wire about anything, but when it comes to framing in something there are some grey areas!
  6. So I have decided to take on building my own stand. The only for sure thing I have rite now is the top. My friend works for a granite shop in my town and I traded some electrical work for a granite top. Its 1 1/2" thick and its 28" x 55" ( I wanted to see some of the granite ) But the dimensions of the stand are still up in the air. I know I want to keep it as low as possible for cleaning reasons, but tall enough for the underside for sumps and skimmers and pumps and ect. I plan on going almost no expenses spared on the filtration system. Nice sump with a large skimmer, there will be a light under the tank, there will be switches and recepticals on the inside of the stand. There will also be large access spots in the fornt and back for servicing of equipment. Anything anyone else would reccomend for the stand? Type of wood (treated or nontreated) heights? Any good blueprints out there? For weight of tank and all I was told to expect about 1200lbs, is that accurate? I just want to do things right this time!
  7. This may be a dumb question. What state are you located in? I KNOW most people are from Texas but i am from MN and am looking for the set up, tank light, sump, skimmer. Shoot me a price.

    my fish'n stuff

i have been in the hobby for about 2 years and still dont know what i am doing :P living in MN there are not a lot of people that actually know what they are talking about:(
  9. ya i think the winners is not bad at all, but the others make mine look kinda like i know what i am doing!
  10. thats where my problems are at rite now, green algae. its kinda coarse hair that grows like little shrubs that i can pluck but my snails clean around it, i think they are spoiled and only eat the tastiest of algae in my tank
  11. the only time they mite require power is for a small jockey pump to up the pressure, if you have poor water pressure then some of the ro/di units have them as an option. at least the ones i saw in dr fosters and smith did. but i am no pro at this either.
  12. this starburst went form the size of a quarter (in the pic) to the size of a mouse pad in about 8 months, i think it looks amazing!
  13. i have one blue damsel (spell?) i feed him about every other day, i change 5 gallons a week, my tap water tested for some ammonia ( i use a additive), i use a phosphate sponge (kent marine), the tank is not exposed to outside light, ph is steady with regular water changes, i have never taken my water anywhere to get tested. the problem more arose when i got corals and went for having my lights of 2 hours a day to 10-12 hours a day. maybe i should cut back the light to like 8 hours then maybe 6?
  14. So I have a little problem with some green algae. I have a fuval 305 and a seaclone 100 skimmer for filtration on a 29 gallon tank. Still have algae growing in the tank thats just on the rocks and its starting to get annoying water clarity is great but just algae on the rocks is ugly to me and is hindering the growth of some of the corals (not getting the light) i use to remove it by scrubbing the rocks. i cant do that now with out exposion the corals to air. i have like 10 snails 15 hermit crabs 1 larger crab (dont even know what kind) and they dont even make a dent in it. so i am thinking it could be my tap water so i was looking at ro/di units and they are spendy and i dont think i have the h2o pressure required at the faucet. so do you think water from a water delivery company would be just as good ( or at least better to off set what i am using now) or should i just get the ro/di unit and be done with it. $ is kind of a object, but if i have spent a boat load on this tank the last 5 years, why stop now?
  15. So recently i have been watching the condition of my water get worse and worse every day, i did a test today and my pH was like 7, i have never had that problem before, ever. then i test my tap water and that tested like 7.5 (about) a little lower then usual. my big concern is that i have no idea how to adjust the pH. need some tips in the worst way. recently i noticed after i got a new filter (fuval 305) and a protien skimmer (seaclon 100) the condition of my water changes more rapidly. wondering if i mite have to give the new filter time to built up the biological filtration side (or maybe that has nothing to do with it). i dont know. i usually do a 3-5 gallon water change every week and try and keep it as neat and clean as possible. also i mite buy a RO/DI unit and the one i was looking at was a coral life (copy and paste in browser) http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod...mp;pcatid=12093 item # CD-18783 50 gpd 4-stage tell me (cause you usually know better then i) if this is a good deal or if there is a better one for about the same $ i am running out of ideas, i got new bulbs for my light, new filter, protien skimmer, and i am having more trouble then when i just had my emperor 280 filter and a heater
