Thanks
I went to JBJ's and Current's web sites and got some service questions answered. I guess the only question I still have is charging them up with freon. Since they use 134, what is currently used in autos can you charge them up with the same gages and equipment or am I thinking too hard on this.
I am also looking for pros and cons on the JBJ and Current "Nano" sized chillers.
The models in particular are:
Current's 2680 & 2635
JBJ's Nano & Mini
All thoughts and comments welcome
Thanks again James D

I am looking to purchase a chiller in the near future (I am tired of noisy fans) and I am curious about how often and
how do you get them serviced? I am talking about recharging the freon, condensor coil service and replacement, so on
and so on. Is this an issue with particular brands or is there a service agreement you can purchase with a chiller. Just
something I considered before purchasing one of these little gems.
Thanks for any help

I am looking at a nano chiller made by JBJ in particular.

Having to explain what is live rock and why there weren't any green plastic plants or neon colored gravel.
Or having someone say wow that is awesome and then ask "Is this a saltwater tank"

How about touching on the advantages and disadvantages of a calcium reactor verses kaulk dosing?
Plus all the equipment for getting started and how to use it all to get the most out of your system?

When you say that you have three bits which is better what do you mean?
Are they different styles of bits or different sizes?
Using standard drill bits are a no-no on acrylic, unless it is a small hole
They will just grab the acrylic and split it.
The bits I was talking about using are flat like a spade with a point in the middle.
let me know if this helps
Also I can help you with that DIY tank if you are interested.

I have been drilling acrylic for some time now and I have always used the flat spade style bits. The secret to success is to use a drill press if possible. Also if you drill either with a press or with a hand
held drill go slow and pause often, letting everything cool a bit. Finally when you get near the end allow the plastic to warm up with the friction of the bit so you will not tear or split the hole when you
come through the other side. I hope this helps

I still have everything available except for the Kaulk Reactor.
I can't believe that more people have not responded. This equipment is in great shape
and well taken care of. Is it priced too high? If someone wants to make me a reasonable
offer I am willing to let it go at a lower price. Let me know.

ive never owned a tank that wasnt acryllic! Magic eraser works like a miracle!! use under water or out. some reason or another people dont want to believe me?? use the thick eraser though. the thin ones tend to break up in water after little use. let others know it this works for u as well as it did 4 me glasses1.gif
I have always owned acrylic tanks as well, can't beat the clarity!! I have always used the white pads
designed for acrylic you can get at your LFS. Or you can use the white filter pad material that you
buy in bulk. Just be sure never ever use a MAG FLOAT on an Acrylic tank EVER even if it says so
(the Green plastic ones). I scratched the crap out of a brand new tank and MAG FLOAT wouldn't
even listen to me when I called with the problem, case closed. You will need to clean acrylic tanks
more often and be sure to keep sand out of your cleaning pad.
-
Wow James you really cleaned that thing up brand new.
I can vouch (having seen this system in person) that it was a very stable nice system and that James takes care of his equiptment as much as any reefer should do.
John
John, thanks for your seal of approval and all your help, who knows maybe I will get
back into it later.

Hello to all
I have tore down my tank and looking to sell all the equipment which includes:
55 Gallon Sea Clear acrylic tank with custom built external overflow on one end
Four door access custom 36" tall dark stained stand pre-wired with 2 power strips

Quiet One 3000 return pump with all necessary plumbing
Red Sea Carbon Chamber with Quiet One pump
Tunze Circulating Pump and Wave Controller with optional light sensor

This tank is designed as a room seperator setup, you can see through the tank from

I have over $2200 invested and except for the Tunze pump and controller it is all
just a year old. I am asking $1600 for the complete setup.

I am down with some DIY stuff. In fact I have had great success with an auto top-off I built for around 20 bucks.
I am currently putting together a custom nano cube that I assembled from the ground up - all acrylic. I would be
glad to share with the club on some of these topics. I guess we will have to see what or if anyone is interested.
If I have the ability to make something I usually do I enjoy the satisfaction. Here is a picture of the cube.
