  1. OK, I have decided to go in a different direction than the nori. I found a website that sells dulse seaweed. I have heard mention on ReefCentral of people feeding this to their tangs. It is hand picked and sun dried only - no further processing. I am going to order some and give it a try.

    Cost:

    1-3 Lbs - $12.50 per Lb.

    4-9 Lbs - $11.50 per Lb.

    10-19 Lbs - $10.25 per Lb.

If you would like to give it a try, I could add to the order. Would like to have it placed by the end of this week. I will not know shipping until the order is placed.

  2. I am going to be placing an order with NoriDirect.com this weekend for my new tang babies coming in. Anyone interested in a group order? I don't need a full case so always willing to split an order.

    http://www.noridirect.com/main.sc

I was thinking of the Nori 1/2 sheets for $44.00/case.

    (10 packs of 100 1/2 sheets)

    - found out this has a lot of phosphates so I will be going in a different direction.

  3. I will be placing an order with UltimateFrags.com and would like to see if anyone else is interested in a group order. Rommel is offering 20% off and free shipping on group orders over $500. I am checking on how best to send payments. He can hold open a group order for up to 3-4 weeks but would require payment ahead of time to hold the coral. This should give more than enough time to put together a group order. Please let me know if you are interested in a group buy. I would be fine hosting pickup or if there is another suggestion for location, I am open to it.

Here is what I am interested in ordering:

    Superman Montipora Digitata $39

    Yellow Daisy Monti $79

    Sunset Micro $99

    TOTAL: $217.00

    Sunset%20Micro776.jpg

  4. Temp 79

    KH 10

    Sg. 1.026

    pH 7.9

    NO3 15ppm

Ph is the only one that is off and I can't get it above 7.9 no matter how much I try. The only thing left to do there is to load in a bunch of buffer, but I'm worried about raising the pH too fast which would stress everything out.

Also, keep an eye on your Magnesium levels.

  5. My sump/refugium has the beginnings of red & green bubble algae as well as a spreading population of green hair algae. Currently I have 2 hermit crabs in the sump as a cleanup crew and I recently put one of my turbo snails in to aid in the control of the algae.

Additional chaeto algae was added this weekend to try to compete for the nutrients.

What else would you recommend for a sump/refugium cleanup crew?

In case it helps, all I have in the sump is LR rubble and some coral frags underneath PC lights - no sand.

I should be getting in a group of Mexican Turbo Snails tomorrow. They are supposed to be 5x as efficient as Astrea snails and eat just about every nasty algea out there.

  6. I think it will. mine pulls water up at least 2 feet.

i've used it successfully on pushing water to the tank. Pulling water up 3 feet would be tough but not pushing it - it all depends on where the pump is located and where the water is going. :D

  7. I am wanting to place an order with Atlantis for some frags. Right now, they have free shipping for orders over $200 and 25% off frags - expires 12/13/08. I would like to have the order ready to be placed on Friday. Anyone interested in participating?

I am interested in the following:

    Superman Montipora Digitata

    ATL Tricolor Forestfire Monti Digitata

    ATL Vanuatu Pink Lemonade

  8. When I was trying to entice the dwarf eel I had to eat, I put in some ghost shrimp I picked up from RCA. They can live in a saltwater environment for a few days. I think they were something like 10/$1 . Not sure about a cheap supply of mysis though.

  9. I am setting up a new tank and would really like to have a fine sand sandbed. I am broke, so was thinking of home depot sand. Anyone used this? Also how deep would you recommend, I was thinking 3". How long should I let this cycle in my tank before adding anything? Will I have a substantial diatom bloom with the new silicates?

I would not use Home Depot Sand. It is silicate based vs. aragonite based - more algae and no beneficial properties.
