  1. I completely agree with Ty on the added difficulty of medication with Sand/Live Rock. It will definitely make it more difficult, but I don't mind the extra work when the majority of the time the tank should hopefully not need medication and is setting in my bedroom where I see it everyday. So I'm sticking with Sand/LR and if I have to medicate I will, then remove the Sand/LR and start over with new Sand/LR from my sump (LR only from the sump that is). The intent is that this tank will be a permanent QT versus a temporary one. We will see how this goes, if it becomes a huge chore (if I need to medicate a lot) then I may rethink my strategy. lol I'm also going to try and be particular on where I purchase fish, this should help to reduce (not minimize) the disease risk if the vendor also QT's their fish.
  2. Agreed on the gorgonian! Is that a Purple Tree? What are you feeding it?
  3. Hi Bobcat, Your tank is looking good! :-) I would agree on the QT process. I built a 30gal QT with a handful of fulltime residents that are non aggressive. I setup mine with sand bottom and a little live rock (I know that is not recommended but it looks better :-)). I have a bio-wheel filter in addition to the live rock. I'm thinking of switching to a HOB skimmer instead? I'm guessing there is probably an entire discussion on QT requirements somewhere on here. :-) I look forward to see how you do with that Potter's Angel. I've heard that those are difficult to maintain. One other note, Hogfish can be very aggressive and possibly kill other tankmates. I think I would pass on the hog even if it is currently calm and passive. Here is a discussion on that. http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2434000 John
  4. Hi Kim, Your tank looks awesome! Something for me to strive for with my new 120. :-) One question, I picked up 1/2" sched 80 PVC for my towers of live rock. It seems very rigid so I'm thinking it will work and will require a smaller hole. I plan to glue it into the base rocks for each tower. My new tank is 31" tall so the rocks will be pretty tall. I also figured on using fiberglass rod for the cross pieces if I have any. What do you think? John
  5. Your build looks great, lots of attention to detail (old Navy term). Quick question, did you put sand in your QT tank? I'm going to setup a Qt tank and could use some pointers. Thanks, John
  6. Sounds like you've been down the road and back and learned a lot with your build. Id like to pick your brain sometime before I build my 90gal. thanks, John
  7. Looks good, I'm starting a 90 build as well (first time reefer)
