  1. There is wet skimming and dryer skimming. To get dark colored skimate you need to dry skim. This means only the foam comes to the top and goes over. You can wet skim if that is your preference. to get it set just requires patience. when you first set it have the foam come up 1/4 to 1/3 of the inside of the cup. Then wait and see if it collects. If not raise the level a cm or 2. YGPM

    Bad Test Kit

The tetra KH test kit is inexpensive and suppose to work well. I also will be changing all my test kits since all but Mg are API. Aquatek caries the elos. They are kind of expensive but killing my corals would be much much worse. Would you recommend elos for Ca.
  3. My coral have been looking a little off. So I took my water to Aquatek and asked them to check my water. I found that my KH was 5. My API test kit said it was 8. The kit was only one month old. I bought a new test kit from Aquatek. I will dose to get it back to 8. Thanks Bruce.

    New Acans

Thats a great collection of acans.
  5. Well I run carbon but not gfo. I did a water test tonight and as follows: Ca 540, Alk 9, pH8.2, Mg 1440, nitrates undetectable. I do not have a reliable phosphate test kit. Must have phosphates due to algae growth. Ben thinking about dosing VSV or Zeovit. What is the basic difference? Both shoot for low nutrient system.
  6. I made my own fish food and have been feeding more. I have been getting a slight algae problem but the corals are growing great and look good. What would be some suggestions on what to do? I know I could cut back the feeding but then the corals were growing very slow. Hoping for better suggestions.
  7. Wow! Great job guys. I can''t wait to see the pictures. I saw the presentation and would like to do it some time with an rbta or gbta. Let me know when you are ready to sell one of your clones.
  8. Maybe you could just chew the gum for about an hour. By then all the flavor would be out of it. Wash it off good to get all the saliva off. lol
  9. I like the rock work. Great light. What bulbs are you running?
  10. Looks good. What pumps did you get.
  11. Clint, How many anthias do you have in your aquarium? Just looking at your posts again and they look great in there.
  12. What a great job. This build is inspiring. If I ever do another build I have to use some of these ideas. Thanks for sharing.
  13. Congratulations! ! ! We adopted two boys from the state. I am sure we could have some interesting conversations. I hope your girls bring as much joy in your life as our boys have ours.
  14. That would be good by me. I was planning on ordering some anthias from Dr. Fosters and Smith. They give a guaranty and the lfs do not.
  15. Nice shots. Would you post a picture of what your tri-color valida looks like in your regular light?
  16. I have not gone there yet. I live in Pflugerville and it is a drive. I guess I need to go next time I get paid. That flame hawk is cute.
  17. I enjoyed my first meeting. I met a few people and hope to meet more next time. Your tank and scolly are amazing.
  18. I would not add anything that has metals in it to my reef. Also, I would not add anything that has a coating that might come off. Corals and fish are very sensitive to toxic substances.
  19. Wow, I like it. I would be interested in seeing pictures of all the plumbing when you get done. Also can't wait to see pictures of the aquarium up and running.
  20. Most people would use actinic as supplemental light. You would then have the actinic come on an hour or two before the MH and off an hour or two after.
  21. Ohhhhhhhh! ! ! I have been doing it all wrong. Does anyone see improved coral color from dosing?
  22. Be careful Brooks. Under age drinking can get you in trouble, lol.
  23. Tell me its not so Clint. You are going down the Zeo road? Have you calculated how much it will cost? When I have read posts about Zeo it always sounds expensive, especially for a 200gal aquarium. After having said all that, it has crossed my mind on something to try.
  24. Thanks everyone for the nice comments.
  25. Posted the diy fragrack on MAAST. Here is the link: Fragrock - Frag rack Yes 540w is 540w whether T5 or MH. Yes, replacing the T5's would be about $300. That would be every 12 to 18 months. As I understand it PAR is more important than watts. I like the even light spread.
