Been limping along on 1 overflow for 2 weeks  now, and the replacement part is scheduled for delivery later today.  I can get the plumbing cemented within about 42 seconds after arrival, but how long should I wait for it to cure before hooking it back up to the system and flowing water?

Yeah, I think that's going to be a winner folks.  😲

$7 part, $3 for shipping.  So now I wait and manually move water...  My poor fuge is just sitting there stagnant (this was the overflow feeding the fuge).

What's the littlest or cheapest break/failure that has caused the biggest pain in your ares or most expensive fix?

Friday afternoon, I caught a glimpse of some standing water on the backside of my tank.  Found a tiny leak coming from my HOB.  After uncoupling the box from the plumbing, the bulkhead leaving the bottom of the box was broken - my guess is from me wiggling the standpipe back and forth to get it out every now and then.

This is probably a $3 part, if I can find one (have an email in to Eshopps, so hopefully I hear back on Monday morning).  If not, it's an $80 replacement, plus another $20+ in plumbing.  And more like $150 total if I upgraded to what I really should have on there and plumbed it up correctly.

But the price really isn't the biggest pita:  The other overflow can't handle the flow on it's own, even w/ my return pump cranked down as far as possible.  That means I have to manually go over to the tank and plug in my return to get display>sump flow going, watch/wait for the water to come up to the display rim, and then unplug the return.  Rinse/repeat.  

There have to be some that will beat that, and misery loves company, so please trump my broken $3 part!

Haven't seen anything, just observing the pattern.  If it was water quality or something in the water, all of the acans should have gone south at roughly the same time, in a more uniform manner for each colony.  What's happening is that the death starts on one edge spot and works it's way across the colony over a period of time.  Some time later, the same thing starts to happen to another colony.  That tells me it's an organism, and likely a single one or it would be able to attack multiple colonies at the same time.

Very doubtful on the dipping.  They have grown out to 5x the size they were when they went in, so I'm not sure how I'd get them out.  Shoot, maybe 10x...here's about a month after going into the tank:

Alk and Ca are dosed 3 hours apart, so precipitation is not likely.

Haven't changed testers at all - Hanna for Alk, Salifert for Ca & Mg.  Definitely not using them for a long time, as I'm testing almost every day.  I'm fairly obsessive w/ getting the correct measurements on all as well - .2ml off?  lol!  I will re-scoop the granular reagent 5x if I think it's anything but flat on the scoop!  I'll also re-do the test if I feel I've messed anything up, or if I get any kind of wonky result.

The rise and fall has to do w/ the fact that I have to manually adjust the time on the dosers and I can't go smaller than minutes.  I simply don't have the ability to dial them in any better than I am today.

What I'm hearing (reading) is that I need to worry about the Alk level, but not so much the Ca and Mg, so long as they aren't crazy.

I suppose it's mostly from a math/chemistry position, not necessarily a reefing issue.  It's confusing and I'm trying to understand the why.

My bigger point here is having to add ~10x Mg vs Alk/Ca and not seeing a significant rise in readings.  If the Mg WAS NOT getting used up in the process, shouldn't the reading be HIGHER? 

Typically test 10a-12n, depending on when I have a bit of a break from work.  Usually dose Mg manually directly after testing, Alk & Ca are dosed at nighttime on timers  - I only have a timer w/ minute options, so I am constantly having to switch from 2>3>2>1>3 to try and keep things stable.  Also had a couple runs where I was doing weekly water changes, so that was another challenge in terms of stability.

This is what I don't get...  I can't get Mag consistently over 1400 and I'm adding 15-20ml/day.  How the heck is that possible?
