I don't think he's selling a retrofit kit. Additionally, Odyssea has a bad reputation for poor quality. You may have to replace both the ballasts, all the bulbs, and the "bulb socket thiings," and it still might not fit in your canopy. If you're not opposed to it, you may be well off to consider a fixture that is suspended over the water rather than fitting inside a hood becuase it helps tremendously with the heat dissipation and easy access to the water. But, if you plan to keep fish that have a reputation of jumping, you may want have a screen that fits on top. If you replace the ballasts and the sockets you will be able to use 250w bulbs, but you could end up spending more on all those seperate parts than you would on a used fixture that fits your needs.

You need two 250w halides, not 250w total. You can run that by andrew, gabe, and james, but I'm almost positive. I don't know what bananags is talking about. I think someone is bananas.

i have a 30 gal fuge. its not what you were looking for. but i wouldl ove to give him a home. he would be on his own. there is quite a bit of rockwork and some cheato. i would glady put in some fake anenome stuff. (no not the plastic ones from petsmart that will shred) but what i find. no i dont have an anenome.

The point of a fuge is to give the pods a safe place to dominate. Adding a clown would be defeating the purpose unless you have an herbavore tank and only use your fuge for filtration.

I have some mushrooms I could trade you. Are they always that color or do they get darker? I'm wondering if it's only "bleached out" a little.

Thanks to all who came to the meeting today. I had a great time and am looking forward to next month. Holy cow. I've been on this NutriSystem diet for a month and rewarded myself today for loosing 20lbs in 1 month by eating whatever I wanted. Now I feel sick after all the cookies and egg nog. I'll be going back on the diet tomorrow or Monday. Wish me luck on the next 20lbs.

It depends on the type of hermit crab. There are many types that get that size. Some are reef safe and some aren't. If it not your typical "scarlet reef hermit crab" I would get rid of it, especially since you've seen it picking on other crabs and snails.

I think the gobies are just hiding.

since you have no corals i would cut back the hours the light is on and raise the mg level to 1500ppm and keep it there for a couple of weeks.

I agree that you should get that timer for your lights that we talked about. On the other hand I would keep your mg as close to 1,290ppm as possible.

If I can remember to take the photo I will. It's going through it's stage of not wanting to open/expand. My husband says "it's dying" and then it will fluff out a few days later. I can't see how it's unhappy in my tank considering everything else is, but it's possible.

Do you have any fish that may be picking on it? There are a bunch of fish that attack worms such as feather dusters. That would explain why the other corals and such are normal and the worms aren't.

I know a bit about heat sinks, but none of the other stuff.

A heat sink is simply a device, such as a slotted block of metal, that disipates heat. They are most commonly used on computer processors. If you get your computer back from jsr he can probably quickly show you the heat sink. The only type I've seen with lights are small fans(which aren't really 'heat sinks' but commonly accompany them). A standard ballast will have slotted metal on the outside of the casing. The slots provide more surface area for cooler air to pass over and absorb/disipate the heat.

question, is the Koralia you use on a wavemaker or some kind of timer?

some one indicate that there is a lot of noise and bubble during start up, so it's not the best thing if you on a wave timer?

The koralias are not good on timers. I have my maxijets on a timer, but the koralia stays on all the time. The propeller is not secured to the shaft it spins around, so when they turn off the propeller tends to slip down. Then when they turn on the propeller is shifted back into place by resistive force and that makes noise and can possibly damage the unit. I'm going to experiment with using a small coffee straw to hold the propeller in place when it's off. I will let you know if that solves the problem. It could be an issue with the strength of the magnets, so I'll keep you posted.

This was sold to me as a Newtoni Wrasse. I don't think it is one since the colors aren't even close to the pictures I've seen of Newtonii. Do you know what it is?

Adding plants is way better than adding a sea hare. The animals you add will also produce waste which feeds the algae. If you get plants instead, after cleaning the glass, they will absorb all the nutrients and you can then move the mass of green to where ever you want it and it will stay there for the most part if that makes since. Next time you do a water change drain the sump completely and save as much of the water as you can. Then you can install bulkheads to run the skimmer externally and have room for a 'fuge'.

I would also recommend adding to your clean up crew, such as nassarius snails or another type of sandsifter. They keep toxins and stuff from accumulating in the sand. I have 20 nassarius, 40 dwarf blue-leg hermits, 40 zebra turbo snails, and a mystery crab(possibly ruby mithrax) who hitch hiked in with my live rock all in a 105g. They eat any of the food that the fish don't eat. That way there's no decay burdening your aerobic bacteria. You may also want to add another algae eating fish because that would be more attractive and interactive than a sea hare. Your lawnmower seems to be a bit timid like mine. I think if you add some more rock that would also help. I would definately recommend cured and as much as you can handle. I'm still up for making that trip to SA after the new year.
