  1. Maybe you should just take the GFO and biopellets off line altogether.

Not that you haven't had really good results with your old tank, but maybe it's time to go simple. Skim well, feed heavily, frequent WCs.

  2. Since this topic comes up from time to time, I figured I'd start a thread about it.

Basic collecting can be done on the beaches and jetty. On the beaches, just grab clumps of sea weed that is floating in the ocean and see what is hiding in there.

On the jetty, go out at night, all the way to the end (it's about a 1/4 mile hike). You'll need head lamps, sturdy shoes (no flip flops) as the rock can be wet and it's uneven, a small to medium fish net (like we use in our tanks), a bucket with an air stone. You should get a SW fishing licence but you can take your chances without. Shine your light down in between the rocks and scoop up what you can. A head lamp with a red light option is a good idea.

Here's a link to a bunch of threads on Port A:

  3. Sounds somewhat like the typical new tank cycle. I didn't read all the thread, at work, but run carbon and increase water changes. If you can do smaller weekly water changes it would be better than larger bi weekly or monthly ones.

  4. Tank has been running along just fine. I put a tail spot, fire fish, and goby/prawn combo in a while back. I lost my tail spot and fire fish for no apparent reason over the last 6-8 weeks.

    Until today.

Found a gorilla grab when I fed the tank this morning. He must have hitch hiked in and remained very well hidden. I'm just surprised he was in there for this long and never seen him before.
