  1. Thanks for the great corals! I love hammer...it was in "full bloom" (LOL) when I got home today. Actually, everyone was open and looked happy. I did mention that pesky, but beautiful, anenome that can't stay still. It moved a foot this morning and was starting to climb up my finger leather. It was headed right for it. When I moved the coral it slowly moved back to the side of the rock...little stinker. I've kind of got all my corals on one side of the tank and that anenome has at least 1/4 of the tank to itself. I've got three others that are no trouble at all. Dena
  2. I actually saw one on Dallas Craig's List yesterday...$1300 I think.
  3. I got another earful last night when I mentioned wanting a large fish only tank again. I was told if I get rid of my fresh water, that's fine. I'm not allowed more than two. So...all excited about a fish only tank in the near future and he's got to get on his soap box last night about how much money we don't have and that I don't think about upkeep expenses when I want something. GRRR. I've tried to get some of the local stores to trade me something for him, but haven't had any luck LOL. Dena
  4. Tomorrow will work. I'll do it on my lunch break and can be there around 11:30. I prefer to do it when hubby is not home. He's in Houston today and San Antonio tomorrow. This way it will take maybe a couple weeks before he says "when did you get those". Dena
  5. I want that Hammer...and I've got a little 3 gallon nano also so I want a couple small stuff that I can put in it, but I have no clue what the rest of that stuff actually is (aside from the frogspawn and mushroom). I only have $100 to spend (it's all I can sneak out of the checking account LOL). I work downtown and can come by on my way home from work. Shoot me an email at [email protected] with directions. I get out about 5p.m. Thanks, Dena 698-7192
  6. Karen, I was just going to ask the same question. I'll be upgrading from a 100 to a 180-200 gallon before the end of the year. Today when I was out working on our land I was thiking of asking this now because I wanted to start a list and check them out online to see what they cost...plan to spend my Xmas bonus this year on ME!!! Forget about the bills! My tank (that will be upgraded) now has a coral beauty angel, a flame angel, naso tang, yellow tang, couple of damsels and chromis, pistol shrimp, banded shrimp, purple lobster, clam, two mandarin dragonets...wish I could just have a whole tank of those LOL, couple of urchins, about four anenomes but only one moves around, and a variety of corals. I was wondering if a stingray would work with these guys. And if so, what is the smallest "full grown" one? Also, I plan to purchase this big puffer to put in my 100 gallon tank as a fish only tank. Are there fish that puffers do better with? I think he's living with some type of wrasse right now. And do puffers do okay with eels? And do eels do okay with other eels? LOL. Dena
  7. I've got one...should be strong enough because it heated up my turtle tank to the low 80's. I'll make sure my husband plugged it in and it's up high enough. Thanks for the input. I thought I read somewhere a 5 degree change was okay...will get right on that. Wish we could move so I can get a bigger one...100 isn't big enough ) Dena
  8. Give me a call this weekend...I'm free in the evenings and we can make the swap. Sent you a message, but I have problems with them going through. I'll take the chromis also...have a couple he can hang out with. Dena 698-7192
  9. Had a good laugh at myself. My thermometer was stuck on that 72.9 mark. I put my hand in the tank and knew it wasn't that cold. Turned it off and back on and it slowly started to rise. Got up to 80 and overnight dropped to 75. Dena
  10. That's a relief! Thanks.
  11. I'll need to test this other stuff again tonight to get exacts. I do know I'm due for a water change, but we are moving in about a month and I want to hold off and do an almost full water change then...will be upgrading my tank hopefully also. It's a 100 gallon tank and I've got a Coralife light...the $700-$800 dollar one with the metal halides (not 250w...I think 175w) and 90w actinics. I was told that I could even put him at the bottom and he'd do okay with that lighting. He's more blotchy...hasn't gotten worse over the past week or so. I'll get the other info. this evening. My nitrates are probably high, but I haven't tested that since I put in the fuge... Dena
  12. I'm full of questions tonight. My purple/bluish clam...heck if I know what it's called, is losing it's color. I've attached a photo of it before the color loss in case you need to know what kind of clam it is to answer. We have good lighting and it's a little more than halfway down in the tank. It still looks and acts healthy, but it's purple is fading to almost a neutral color...I think I've heard it being called "bleaching" or something like that. Can anyone tell me why it might be doing this? My light is on a timer...on at 8a.m. and off at 8p.m. which moon lights in the evening. Thanks for putting up with me tonight! Dena
  13. I've noticed a few of these in the tank. This seems to be the biggest. When stretched out it's at least 1/4 of an ince wide and I've seen about 3 inches of it coming out of the rocks. It will stretch out and then stick out this bristle-like thing (similar to the shape of a feather duster, but lots smaller), then retract it scraping algae off the rocks. It is eating my coraline also...doesn't bother the corals though. Any ideas? the closest thing I could find to what it might be is called a "peanut worm". Dena
  14. Here's a photo...not the best. Took it wih my phone...it shows two of them. They are a little bigger than a quarter right now. Dena
  15. I decided to not risk my Mandarin's life LOL. I wanted that Mandarin before I got any fish and I absolutely love watching him. Tried to get a female, but she croaked overnight...may try again later. I ended up putting the Goby in the fuge...lots of rocks and shady places from algae for him to hide out in. Hopefully he'll be happy there. I thought about trading him in or giving him away, but I'm one that would rather set up a new system for the fish. My husband is the one that really wanted it gone. Maybe he'll at least stop thinking about the 30 gallon running with live sand and rocks now that "Bob" is downstairs. I'm off to feed my snakes...thanks!!! Dena
  16. I'm willing to give it a shot then. I have a 100 gallon tank and in Dec. will get a 180 gallon or something close to that with my Xmas bonus. I'll send some photos of the shrooms this evening and you can let me know what you think. I've got one that is larger than the rest, but it's attached to the big rock. Thanks!!! Dena
  17. I don't completely understand the difference either...both are used to help filter, but I think refugiums are more for putting algae's in to help reduce nitrates right? That is my husbands part of the whole deal. I was happy with just plain regular filters LOL. I know we'll be building a sump also...he wants the filters completely gone. This is why the hobby got expensive on our end. He wanted the right stuff right away even though we couldn't afford it...and then I get in trouble for the money spent on acrylic, lights, tubing, etc. I had an extra tank that would have been a great fuge, but he insisted on making one! Now I'm cut off LOL...I think I mentioned in another post that I'd like to trade him in for some corals... Good question though...can I put it in my refugium? I've got at least 10-15 gallons of space in the main part...water is always running through it obviously...have some rocks, copes, and two fancy shrimp that someone told me eat coral so I put them in there. I'll put him there if it's enough room for him!!! Thanks for the idea. Dena
  18. I'm kind of cut off from buying stuff per hubby's rules, but I'd love the eel. Anything else they are known to eat? I do have shrimp and a purple lobster...a brittle star also, but he's about the same size as the eel. Would you be willing to trade an elephant ear mushroom? I've got four small ones and two are still attached to small pieces of rock. Dena
  19. I'm going to take the plunge...going to try to put my killer Goby in my main tank. My tank is at least twice the size of the tank he use to be in, so I'm hoping maybe that will give him enough hiding spaces and he'll leave the fish alone. I do have a Mandarin Dragonet/Goby and wanted to know if anyone has any idea if it would be risky having them together. My husband is complaining that I have the 30 gallon tank upstairs with just that darn Goby in it. It's actually housing the Goby and about 40lbs of live sand and maybe 10-15lbs of live rock. I want to keep it all so that I can get a 180 gallon set up when we move. He doesn't think we need two tanks to keep up with. Mind you, he never goes into the room where I have the tank, doesn't mess with it, etc. Maybe someone will trade me some cool corals for him?? ) If these two critters won't get along, then I'll have to just rehome the Goby even though I don't want to ( Dena
  20. What is the best temp range for the tank? Wonder if it has to do with the temp in the house? We've got a lot of dogs and keep our temp. no higher than 74/75 in the home. Our tank right now is at 72.9, but it was staying stable around 76.9..not sure why it dropped recently, but the thermostat is close to the top and we have one of those Coralife 150W (I believe) MH and something W actinic. My corals are doing fine, but I lost a fire fish recently that has always appeared healthy...can't find him or my big sea slug. I also had a "pom pom" crab in my refugium and he croaked on me. That may have been my fault...think I dropped a little rock on him when I was messing with things. Dena
  21. I love your posts...you ask all the questions I was thinking of when I first started. I'm still new...this year was my first tank set up. Will always have something to learn, but it's so much fun! Dena
  22. Mike, I just sent you a message. Email me (can't talk at work)... Dena [email protected]
  23. Awesome!! I've wanted one of those since I started up my main tank...but I put other clowns in there before I realized they don't like each other. Unfortunately, hubby put me on a budget for the rest of the year so I can't get my Gobie a tank mate. Dena
  24. oops...i said a bad word!
