  1. This was built by Dave (Prof here on ARC) with his usual excellent workmanship. Joints are tight and it is a really nice set. The reason I'm selling it after less than a year is I didn't realize when I had him build it that I would be moving my office. In the new place, I built my tank into a wall.

I finished it myself with a "distressed look" on medium darkness stain. The inside is sealed with multiple coats of white latex to reflect light and protect the wood from water/salt damage. The outside is sealed with at least 5 coats of polyurethane. I'm pretty proud of it if I do say so myself.

Here's what it looked like when it was set up in my office. Oh actually, this pic was taken before the little trim piece on top was stained.

The way the hood is built, it holds two metal halide pendant fixtures so that the top half of the fixture (where the vents are) is outside the hood to cut down on heat inside the hood. There is a trim piece that hides the exposed tops of the lights. In addition to the two MH's, it will also hold four 48" T5's, PLENTY of light for an SPS tank.

There are also holes drilled to hold two fans. I didn't have a chiller on this tank and it stayed between 78F and 80F almost all the time, unless someone knocked the A/C too far back. Lights are not included.

The front of the hood is also hinged so you can open it to feed fish or do a simple water change without opening the whole top.

The stand has large doors on the front for easy access to sump, etc.. I asked him to make them as large as possible because that was one of the problems I had with my old stand. There is a hole drilled in the back right corner for a drilled overflow tank.

$300 for both stand and hood. If interested, send me a PM to establish the order of who asked first, but also call me at 512 964-2015. I generally don't like posting my phone number on the internet, but I am terrible about forgetting to check my PM's here when I have something for sale. Pick up would be from my house in Georgetown (Parmer/2243 area) or if needed I could take it to my office in North Austin.

  2. Dropping by is okay, but I may be with a patient and unable to come out right away. You're welcome to look anytime we're open (8-6 Mon, Tues, Fri and 8-7 Wed and Thurs, some Saturdays from 9-2) but I'd like to be there when we get things out. I'm usually there from 8:30-2 except Thursdays I work until 7 and I do take a lunch, usually sometime between 1:00 and 2:30.

  3. I'm going to be moving my tank in a month or so and I'm thinking I should get rid of some extra frags. I have several small frags of three to maybe 7 heads. I'll sell for $6/head $4/head (I'll do a volume discount on the larger frags).

These are at my office (Parmer Eye Care at Parmer & Mopac) so I'd like the buyer to pick them up there on weekdays if possible, but I could also arrange to bring them to Georgetown where I live if needed.

I also have lots of fuzzy mushrooms and red mushrooms currently attached to rocks and some pink zoas and bright green zoas (you can see some of them in the first pic) I could peel off the glass. Let me know if you're interested in these and we'll figure out a price.

The only pic I have of the candy canes is an old one, but the ones I'm selling are either the same ones or frags of this:

And here is the original softball sized colony, which unfortunately went through a rough time and had to be fragged into these smaller ones and nursed back to health. They're doing great but not quite back to their former glory yet.

Because I've been known to forget to check my messages here sometimes, I'm going to post my phone number which I normally don't do online. Please PM first (to establish the order of who asked first) and only call with serious inquiries. 512 964-2015 Thanks.

  4. I'm paid too.

I'm North too. If delivery is on Thursday, I can only pick up at my lunchtime, which is between 1:00 and 2:30 or after 7pm. If it's on Friday I get off at 2:00 and could go pick up for others in the North. My office is at Parmer and Mopac, so people could pick up there until 6:00pm or at my house in Georgetown later in the evening.

...but of course if someone else wants to pick up and bring it North that would be great.

  5. My favorite place to eat in Leander may or may not be "nice enough" for what you're looking for, but it's a quaint Italian/American place and I think it could be considered romantic (how's that for a confident recommendation?). Whether or not the atmosphere is what you want, the food is absolutely fantastic. It is the O'Leander Cafe. I've enjoyed the lemon tilapia and the pepper crusted tuna with capers, tomatoes and olives drizzled with balsamic, and the crab bisque. My husband loved the pork chops and my daughters like the baby back ribs and especially the broccoli cheese soup.

But the absolutely best reason to go there is for the Tiramisu. It is to die for!. Even if you end up having dinner elsewhere, go to the O'Leander for dessert!

  6. I had a little frag of this that was sold to me at Aquatek as Meridiona (I think, something like that) but I had already figured out it wasn't that. Unfortunately my little frag that was on a plug got misplaced in my tank. I guess it fell down into the rocks. I was wondering if I might find it alive when I go to move my tank in a few months or if it will have died from lack of light by then.

  7. Thanks for the link. I'll keep that one. I definitely don't think it's the cotton candy. Dinoflagellates or maybe even a variant of cyano seems more like it. I did have a cyano problem not too long ago and thought I had it kicked after a weekend of darkness and reducing my feeding.

  8. It started building up just on this one candy cane about a week ago. I have other candy canes, but they don't have it. At first I thought this one had just snagged some frozen mysis when it was polyped out at feeding time, but it doesn't go away and it's been getting bigger. Again, it's only on that one coral, except there's another little glob of it below that coral on a rock that I think just broke off and got hung up.

I'm gonna get it out because it can't be a good thing, but I was just curious if anyone knows what it is.

  9. The fuzzies are well attached to very small rocks. $5 each.

GSP glows and waves in the current. $7 good size frag.

    GSPandfuzzyshrooms.jpg

These fuzzy mushrooms really have long tentacles. They look more like powder puffs than mushrooms and they form mats that wave around so nicely. The tips have a nice bluish glow under actinics.

I also have some red shrooms and green candy canes if you're interested.

  10. Funny you made this post today because just this morning (or maybe over the weekend) my redfin wrasse went through the overflow and into my sump. Funny thing is that I immediately knew something was up because although he's new to the tank (got him and a flame hawk at the same time about 3-4 weeks ago so Derek your post got my attention) he is almost always out front, so I checked behind the tank to see if he went "carpet surfing" and didn't see him. A little while later, one of my patients who is interested in salt tanks was looking at my sump and noticed him in there. I still haven't caught him. I think I'm gonna have to take the protein skimmer out to get him, so he's just hanging out for now. I might try using a soda bottle trap before I go to the trouble of taking out the skimmer. What a pain!

But I've had the tank for over 10 years and rarely if ever had any jumpers, even though the hood I had until last September was wide open in back. My new hood has two openings about 2"-3" wide where the pipes exit. I have a regular Mandarin who's been in there at least a year and a half, a flame angel (bout a year), two PJ Cards (probably 8 years) and new to the tank are the flame hawk, redfin wrasse and Diamond spotted Goby.

  11. This is the only recent pic I have of a frag. I was trying to get fish pics last Friday. You can see it in the background, but not really in focus.

    RedfinWrasse.jpg

This is what it used to look like, about a year and a half ago (also I had less actinic lighting then, but it still "glowed") before I had some "tank issues." It's coming back nicely now, but instead of one or two big colonies I have 6 or 7 small frags.

Some people call this one Kryptonite Candy Cane.

  12. I still haven't seen him since I let him loose Wednesday. I hope he's still okay. :D

If he's a goner, I'm gonna have to blame the Flame Hawk and his lease may be up soon. First thing the hawk did when I got him a week ago was to kill my firefish who had been there for 5 years!
