  1. I'm wanting to make some extra room in my tank for some SPS now that I'm getting MH lighting. I have several big swaths of fuzzy shrooms that I wouldn't mind thinning out and I thought I could sell some of them or trade them here to offset some of the cost of the new corals.

What is the best way to get them off the rocks and the best way to attach them to something else so the person who gets them won't have to worry about them floating all over the tank?

Should I just get some small limestone rocks (cleaned well) or should I get some of those little plates that the frags come attached to at the fish stores?

How do I secure them to the rock I want them to attach to and how long does it take?

I also might do the same with some zoas. I think I read in a different post something about eye protection? As an optometrist, that's right up my alley, but I'm not sure what the protection is from. Do the zoas squirt at you?

    Any suggestions are welcome!

Here's a pic of my tank just to make this post more interesting. The fuzzies are over on the right side, although I have several patches of them. Sorry about the bad pic. Hard to take pics of the tank without getting reflections from the window.

  2. Three rocks. $25 each.

One has about 13 red mushrooms

one just pink zoas (maybe 40?)

one about the same number of zoas plus some yellow polyps and one happy healthy pumping zenia.

Sorry about the bad pic. I had just moved them so not everyone is open. Also, about half of my lights have been out for a couple of months (I'm down to 2 48" T5's and 1 36" T5 on my 75G tank) so these guys do get even brighter than they are now.

  3. I was about to post this one for sale or trade. There are about 13 red shrooms on the top rock. How's $75 for the rock? It only has red, but they're normally nice and bright and have spread all over the tank. I had just moved some stuff around before I took this pic, so that's why the zoas in the foreground look unhappy. Also, I've only had about half my normal lights for the past month or more, so they should get even brighter than they are now. I'm planning to sell or trade the frags in front too.

  4. Keep the kitty. She picked you. Make that she HIRED you. Dogs have owners, cats have staff.

I don't think ears grow back. I have a 25 year old horse who had part of her ear bitten off by another horse when she was 2. It's still gone. I also had a dog who got in a tussle as a small puppy which caused just a split in her ear about 3/4" long and it never grew back together. I think I even tried taping it. Oh, and what about breeds that get surgically docked as pups like Schnauzers, Dobies and PB's? Nope, you've got a permanent Van Gogh there.

  5. I hadn't posted here since I got the new stand. It looks great! I put a few more coats of poly on it before we moved the tank, and while I was working on that, my hubby examined the stand and said Dave did a really good job building it. That's high praise because he's pretty picky. He noticed how the screws were countersunk and the joints were well done.

We moved the tank to the new stand on Labor Day weekend. Big job, but I"m so happy with the way it looks and with how much more room there is underneath the tank now. I just moved all the water, rock and corals to big ice chests while we moved the tank, but it all looks so much better now that it's all back in place because I shook off a lot of detritus when I moved it and also replaced the sand in the bottom. Actually, there wasn't even that much sand, it was mostly gunk. I need more Nasserius snails and a sand sifter goby. But I'm happy to report that all the inhabitants, fish and inverts, survived! :yahoo: I should move the rocks around more often. All the fish were out and more visible for a couple of days while they re-established their territories. cool.gif

Now I can't wait to get the matching hood with the bright lights! My old black hood doesn't look so great with the nice oak stained stand.

  6. Looks like Dave is going to be able to get it done after all. He's going to deliver it today! Woo Hoo! He's even doing the staining for me which I was originally going to do myself to save a little money.

Thanks Dave for working to make it right, and I do understand about work getting in the way. My husband has suddenly been working longer hours and being on lots of conference calls at night lately too. You gotta do what you gotta do, especially in these times. I'm glad you were able to finish it though. I wasn't looking forward to starting over and I always knew you'd do a great job if you were able to find the time. This thread is the perfect example. Every time I've asked in the community who does this, your name comes up, usually first.

I can't wait to see it!!!

  7. I need a new stand and hood for my 75G. I want to have two metal halide "pendants" mounted so they stick up a little through the lid (to allow more ventilation) and two 48" T5 bulbs along the front and back, otherwise I think what I want is pretty standard. I had someone who was going to make them for me, but he's been swamped with work and hasn't been able to get to it. Meanwhile what was originally something I wasn't in a big hurry for in June has become more urgent for me because I need to do some work on the plumbing, but I don't want to do it until I get the new stand.

PM me if you do wood working and want a new project, but only if you think you can get it done in the next week or maybe two tops.

    Thanks,

    Sundra

  8. I may be interested in the MH ballasts. I googled the Blue Wave 7 but was confused by this in the description:

    • 150 watt ballast runs double-ended HQI metal halide lamps or medium base HQI metal halide lamps

    • 250 watt ballast runs double-ended HQI metal halide lamps or mogul base HQI metal halide lamps

Does it run one 150W and one 250W bulb or can it run two of either? Sorry if this is a dumb question. I'm not electrically literate.

  9. Okay I'm lost. Could you elaborate a bit on what you did for those of us who didn't see the presentation? Are you just cutting an anemone in half? What type of anemone are you doing this with and were there any specific methods you are following based on Anthony's presentation?

Oh and what is "TMAC"? I'm not up on all the text lingo, or is it an acronym for something else?

  10. I have several frags from this mother coral. She is not for sale, but I may be able to be convinced to sell the large frag above her, which probably has at least 20-30 heads. "Mother" is about 4 1/2 " across and beautiful! The photos do not do justice. VERY glowy-green and grows like crazy even though I only have her under HO T5's and my calcium us usually below 400. :

Here are a few. They probably have from 8-12 heads on each frag.

Let's say the price will be $9/head to make it easy. My tank is in my office which is Parmer Eye Care at the corner of Parmer Lane and Mopac, in the HEB shopping center. It would be easiest if you could come pick up, but I may be able to deliver if you're not to far from either my office or my home which is in Georgetown.

Oh, as you can see, I also have quite a few mushrooms and fuzzy mushrooms. If you are interested in them, or maybe some pink zoas (if I can find an easily removable rock that has them on it) let me know.

I may not check my PM's here every day, but I'll try to watch them closer while I have this ad up.

  11. Thanks. I replied to your PM's.

I'm really looking for a fish that's been in someone's tank for a while, which is why I posted to trade. I want one that's already been acclimated to tank life. Otherwise, I could just take a frag in to River City and I think they'd trade me for a flame.

I think I'm going to go ahead and post this in the "for sale" forum. I'd still trade one for a nice fat flame angel that's accustomed to tank life, but I think I'll have better luck just selling the frags for a reasonable retail price and buying a flame at the LFS. Anyway, I'll take $70 for the 8 head frags. I think some of them have more heads, so we'll adjust accordingly.

  12. Thanks. I replied to your PM's.

  13. I had a few PM's to reply to in my mailbox, but when I tried to send the second one I got an error that said "you can't send another PM until April 28 12:25 PM" I've been a member here for several years, but haven't been active for a while until just lately when I posted a few things for trade. Is there a new rule that you can only send PM's every 5 - 10 minutes, or what?

Oh, and I wasn't sure where to post this question so if there's a better place, just move it. I tried using the help menu (as the error message told me to do) but it didn't have anything for the keywords PM error nor when I typed in the whole error message.

    Thanks,

    PK

  14. My stand is looking kinda shabby and I wish I had a taller hood so I could put metal halides in.

I also wish I had more room in the stand because it is crammed FULL of sump, skimmer, top off and fuge right now, and I really need a bigger top off. My current stand is about 2 feet tall. Another 6-8" would help, or I might be willing to go for a bigger tank as long as it was just deeper front to back, not lengthwise nor height.

If you have something you think might work, let me know.

  15. First picture is of the Mother Candycane, which is not for sale, but I have several frags from her. She is about 4 1/2 " across and beautiful! The photos do not do justice. VERY glowy-green and grows like crazy even though I only have her under powercompacts and my calcium us usually below 400.

Most of the frags have about 10 or 12 heads, so I figure they'd be about $100 in a LFS. I think Flames still go for about $50, but if you have a nice fat healthy one who is acclimated to tank life, I'd be willing to trade straight up for one of the frags.

    CandyCaneKryptonitefrags.jpg

If you have other interesting fish I might be willing to trade for other types. Perhaps a Flame Hawk or Royal Gramma, although either of them may be too territorial.

Also, you can see in the pics that I have a bunch of mushrooms and fuzzy mushrooms. I could probably stand to part with a few of them if someone really wanted them.
