  1. From an experience standpoint I'd recommend anyone be as self sufficient as possible when diving abroad as the quality of divermasters or other dive support varies greatly between locations. I've had everything from excellent to outright dangerous with benign indifference being about average.

+1 on this. There's some downright dangerous stuff that goes on. I intervened one "divemaster" trying to pull my father down when he was having major equalization issues at about 20ft. I think by brother would have harpooned him if he had one on hand wink.png

I remember my sister telling me a story about diving in Jamaica and her tank was leaking. Probably an o-ring, but when she mentioned it to the DM his response was " Ah, no worries mon, we all come up in the end, don't we?" Umm...I'd prefer to come up alive so...Yes, make sure you're very self sufficient and comfortable!

Most places I've been diving with have been very professional and supportive which is esp nice because it always takes me awhile to equalize and be able to get to depth. Constant sinus issues. If any of them had grabbed me and pulled me down I'd have beaten them with whatever I had handy! Dive knife probably devil.gif

  2. I've always thought it was a great idea! My favorite place to be is underwater diving, and I don't get to do it nearly enough, so I would love to spend eternity as part of the reef :) I've already told my family that's what I want them to do, hope they follow through, lol!

  3. The boat rides were rough for those of us that get seasick, but the diving was definitely worth it. Granted it was several years ago, but I loved it! Big huge brain corals and giant angelfish and all :)

Club trip could be good since my husband has never been, lol!

  4. I am so going there one of these days! Always wanted to see the whale sharks. There used to be a dive out of Texas City to the Flower Gardens in the Gulf that went after the full moon in Aug, bc that's when the mantas and whale sharks came for the coral spawning. Haven't done that one yet either, but the Stetson Bank dive with the same company was awesome!

  5. Atxcableguy83, if you head down that way to pick some up, is there any way you could grab some for me too, please (if Patrick will let me have some, that is?) ? I live in Georgetown, but can meet you in CP...

  6. Oh dear...this is my super fish that I started my SW tank for. Haven't found a good enough one when I was ready to buy one, but that one looks pretty nice...and it IS Christmas..and it has been living in a tank so I know it's healthy...whistle.gif Let me check the Christmas fund. Do I need to drive to Elgin to get it or are you making any more deliveries this way again?

    Thanks!

  7. Hey y'all,

I have a couple of small kenya tree frags, a small devil's hand and a purple anemone that I would like to trade for LPS or mushrooms, preferably, but open to anything. The anemone was sold from Petsmart as a condy, but doesn't look like the one I used to have. It had a black clown hosting in it for awhile, but she is no longer with us and no one else has an interest in it. Need some color other than pink in my tank, lol! If you're interested, you can text me at 512-963-1743 or let me know here. The big kenya tree in the pic is the mother colony, but the one to the left is available, plus a couple of smaller ones.

  8. Because it's that time of year, I managed to knock an open, half full smaller jar of fish pellets into the 90g tank. Looked like it was snowing pink pellets. Scooped out what I could with the net, then did a 20g water change to suck out what I could. Problem: there's still a (to me) significant amount behind the rocks where I can't get to. Got several brittle stars and crabs and a foxface who loves the stuff and I'm hoping they'll clean it up. Should I remove all 100# of rock to get it all, or wait and see what happens?

    Thanks!!
